Islam is a monotheistic religion originating with the teachings of Muhammad, a 7th-century Arab religious and political figure. The word Islam means "submission," or the total surrender of one's self to God. Islam's adherents are known as Muslims, meaning "one who submits (to God)". There are between 1 billion and 1.8 billion Muslims, making Islam the second-largest religion in the world, after Christianity. Muslims believe that God revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad, God's final prophet, and regard the Qur'an and the Sunnah (the words and deeds of Muhammad) as the fundamental sources of Islam. They do not regard Muhammad as the founder of a new religion, but as the restorer of the original monotheistic faith of Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other prophets. Islamic tradition holds that Judaism and Christianity distorted the messages of these prophets over time either in interpretation, in text, or both. Adherents are generally required to observe the Five Pillars of Islam, five duties that unite Muslims into a community. In addition to the Five Pillars, Islamic law (Sharia) has developed a tradition of rulings that touch on virtually all aspects of life and society. Almost all Muslims belong to one of two major denominations, the Sunni and Shi'a. The schism developed in the late 7th century following disagreements over the religious and political leadership of the Muslim community. Roughly 85 percent of Muslims are Sunni and 15 percent are Shi'a.

The Islam of the three monotheistic religions known as the Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity, Islam - one of the most religious adherents in the world. The general meaning of the word Islam is fully amenable to the Creator, standardization and compliance with the obedience and innocence of shirk and its people. And Muslims believe in angels and all God's messengers and holy books of ex-Yugoslavia and the other day and just good and evil. The Koran is the book the house of God to Muhammad through Gabriel. The Koran is the source of Islamic legislation is the first and the Sunnah is the second source of Islamic law. The Elements of Islam are five pillars: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and establish prayer, pay Zakat and fasting during Ramadan pilgrimage to the House for those who can afford the expenses.

إن الإسلام من الديانات السماوية الثلاثة المعروفة بالديانات الإبراهيمية—اليهودية، المسيحية، الإسلام—وهو من أكثر الديانات أتباعا في العالم. والمعنى العام لكلمة الإسلام هو الانقياد التام للخالق بالتوحيد والإذعان له بالطاعة والبراءة من الشرك وأهله. وهو تسليم كامل من الإنسان لله تعالى في كل شؤون الحياة.

يؤمن المسلمون أن الإسلام هو آخر الديانات السماوية، وأنه ناسخ لما قبله كما ذكر في القرآن ﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الإِسْلامَ دِينًا﴾ (المائدة:3) وفي قوله: ﴿وَأَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقاً لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَمُهَيْمِناً عَلَيْهِ﴾(المائدة48). كما يؤمن المسلمون بأن محمداً رسول من الله وخاتم الأنبياء و المرسلين و أُرسل إلى الثقلين كافة (الجن والإنس). و من أسس العقيدة الإسلامية الإيمان بوجود إله واحد هو الله، وأنهم يتبعون الحنيفية ملة إبراهيم .

ويؤمن المسلمون بالملائكة وبجميع رسل الله السابقين وبالكتب السماوية السابقة واليوم الآخر والقدر خيره وشره. والقرآن هو الكتاب المنزل من عند الله على محمد عن طريق جبريل . والقرآن هو مصدر التشريع الإسلامي الأول وتعتبر السنة النبوية هي المصدر الثاني في التشريع الاسلامي. أما أركان الإسلام فهي خمسة أركان: شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله وأن محمداً رسول الله وإقامة الصلاة وإيتاء الزكاة و صوم رمضان وحج البيت لمن استطاع إليه سبيلا.
