Can anyone tell me can love last Forever?

I have ask this question to my cousin today,
he said no.But i expect the answer is yes,
because i really think Love can be last forever.
when i being with someone i love, I gives out my promises,
commitment and my life. I never want to get it back or
change what i have promises or committed.
I am very proud of what i did, being with a girl that
i love for almost 6 years, and i really hope to be with
her forever, and ever till the day i lay down on the bed
in the hospital holding her hands and say good bye to her.
But life is cruel, there are so much things in this
world that can make a person change. My cousin told me today,
his friend was with a girl for 5 years,but they broke
up within a year. even a 10 years relationship
can be dissapear by one day.
How can love easily taken out from the heart easily?

I feel terrible. can someone help me?
why is LOVE SO hard...?
