Mandi Perkins is an intensely passionate singer/songwriter who creates uncompromising melodic rock. Energetic and charismatic, she writes about her life and those around her in a musical form of empathy, which makes listeners think, care and question. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Mandi began writing and performing when she was very young and her childhood included musical theatre, vocal competitions, and writing every chance she could.
Cut to college---
A week after graduating with a degree in Honors English from UC Berkeley, Mandi Perkins decided to move to Los Angeles in order to pursue a career in music while simultaneously attending Loyola Law School. She recently graduated, passed the California State Bar and completed her debut full length album, "bleeding the line ...," with help from some of the biggest names in the music industry.
Mandi had a creative vision, a story she wanted to tell, so she began the quest by asking her friends on here to help fund and support her debut album. Through their belief in her talent, Mandi was able to pre-sell thousands of records and acquire private donations for her album before she even began recording.
What resulted from all the hard work and determination is "bleeding the line..." which had a limited digital release (through De Novo Music Group & INgrooves) on August 14, 2007.
“bleeding the line….” is melodically dark and rich and it’s a debut unlike any other because it is undisputedly a major label quality album made without the major label.
The album was produced by Warren Huart (The Fray, Howie Day and Anna Nalick) and mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac and My Chemical Romance). The album also features a top notch group of musicians that leant their services: Dan Rothchild (Fiona Apple, Beck) on bass; David Levita (Alanis Morissette, Jewel) on guitar; Travis McNabb, drummer for Better then Ezra; and Jay Clifford from Jump Little Children on piano.
Mandi wrote all the lyrics on her album and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the industry. In addition to Huart and Clifford she has worked with Ryan Tedder (Timbaland, One Republic) and Greg Wells (Mika.br>
Mandi has already sold over 20,000 CD’s and digital downloads of her 2005 EP “Broken Window” and the lead single "Why" won numerous awards and received airplay across the country. With exceptional publishing opportunities in the works, Mandi has had songs featured on MTV's "The Real World", "The Hills" & "Laguna Beach." She has already licensed two songs from her debut album to "Girlfriends" on the CW and she will be performing her songs "Who I Am" and "Why Pretend,” on the season premiere of the show. Along with many shows booked over the next few months, Mandi is also set to appear on the influential 98.7fm Star Lounge on August 16th.
