Have you ever had one of those nights where you just can't sleep, no matter how very hard you try to? I'm sure everyone has...it's like dreamworld is just out of your grasp, and the minutes tick by like snails across tile, and nothing you do could ever possibly latch your fingers around the hands of sleep and take you away from the thoughts that seem to so restlessly fill your head. It was ANOTHER one of those nights for me.

And it so often makes me wonder why it is that I've never been granted the ability to sleep well. Even when I was a child, I spent more nights tossing and turning than I did guised in the innocence of a dream where anything was possible. That issue has become more an insomnia anymore than I think even my mother is possessed by, seeing as how she drugs herself time and again to gain the sleep she so desires in order to escape the world. But I refuse to do that; I've seen the effects the drugs she takes has had on her before, and I have sworn to never allow myself to get that desperate. It's one thing to not be able to sleep; it's quite another to not be able to sleep unless you numb yourself to your own thoughts.

It's 6:42 am on a saturday morning, and the rest of the world has yet to truly awaken from slumber, but here I sit at my computer in the fading darkness as the sun rises it's sleepy head, typing out the words that some of you will soon read upon your screens. And I wonder if it's only that reality seems so much more appealing than dreamland at this moment, when I cannot be where I truly wish and thus can only hold fantasies in my head, but I will not swear that I've been the kind who gives up sleep for daydreams. I'd rather sleep and sleep well through the night, the way I surely must have when an infant, then I would to spend so much time awake and musing and restless.

But that is surely a dream I'm not able to reach quite yet, and perhaps there is a reason for this...but what that reason is, I cannot say. All I know is that it's 6:46 am...and I've been up for more than enough of the night, but I still remain awake. Sleep eludes my reaching fingers.
