In the shadows I wait.

For death, do I debate?

Insanity beyond compare.

Death seems more a thrill than a dare.

But does the thrill take over

Before or after I’m sober?

I await my turn to speak

To the one I seek.

In the shadows I wait.

Dare I debate?

Let God help with fear,

So I can still love the one so dear.

But how long must I sit.

Much longer and that will be it.

No one seems to know

That I am my own foe.

In the shadows I wait.

I can no longer debate.

I hold the dagger in my hand.

Something that I thought I could never withstand.

Does the one so dear

Actually come near?

He comes at this time

With my last few rhymes.

In the shadows I wait.

He stopped the debate.

To the floor he staggered

And took my dagger.

God answered my prayers.

The thrill was only a dare.

My loved one sat with me,
