There has been a lot going on lately. Sarah already
posted about finding the house. Everything is going well on that front.
The big thing at work is that the residency program is closing.
Thankfully, this doesn't affect me too much. I'm out in 4 months and the
administration is claiming that everyone currently in a residency will be
graduated by 08. We shall see if the program/hospital lasts that
long. My guess is that in 1 year both will be seriously
compromised. OB/GYN was given 60 days notice that the department was
being closed. The ER is now about half the size for half the day and full
size in the afternoon. Ortho surgery is no longer doing elective
procedures and is only providing fracture support. Interventional
cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery was closed for 2 weeks and then
reopened. The owners didn't tell the residency programs about this move,
which required them to withdraw from the match after submitting a rank list,
which is contractually binding. There will be no interns after
June. Some people pre-matched which means they already signed a year contract
for 06-07. We'll see what happens to them. Those that pre-matched
were foreign grads (hard to get residency spots) and did not enter the match
because of their prior contract. They might be offered a 1 year
position. PGY (post graduate years) 1's and 2's in the internal and
family medicine programs are searching for open spots around the country.
This whole thing only affects the transitional year interns in that 2 of us
won't get an OB/GYN rotation; and those 2 consider themselves lucky (new rotation
= elective with no nights/weekends/call).
Regarding the title of this entry: Heidi has gotten in the habit of telling us
what she doesn't like in her mouth. The other day we were looking at
pictures and I asked Heidi if she liked mountains. She replied "No,
I don't like mountains in my mouth." She seems to consider this a
logical reply when asked whether she likes something. Both girls are
talking a lot and use their new abilities to announce everything we/they
do. They have also learned pronouns. They will say "Dada boy,
His cup."
Sarah's doing pretty well. She has had many more problems with this
singleton pregnancy than her twin pregnancy. Fatigue, back
ache......etc. Overall, she's doing well.
I'm on my first of 2 surgery months. Some days there are more interns
than patients. This makes for short and easy days. When I do go
into the OR, the surgeon will scrub in and tell me what to do and hold the
wound open for me (traditional med student job). This means I do about
99% of the surgery. It's pretty fun except that we have 9 surgeries
planned for tomorrow. The good news is that they will be spilt among 2
interns and 1 PA student. I'm going to try to go the open cases as I've
done laproscopic work on pigs and dogs and don't feel like going back to being
the camera monkey.

Well, we survived the trip to Texas and Oklahoma. The girls enjoyed
their time with family in Texas at the beach. We could not really enjoy
the beach due to the cold and wet weather. The girls had so much fun
with their cousins that Heidi did not want them to leave with out her.
She really wanted to go home with them. The home search in OKC went
really well. We were able to start a contract on our first choice which
was nice. We are now waiting to hear back about inspections and all of
that fun stuff that starts now. The house has four bedrooms and 2 3/4
bathrooms. We are just glad that it has more than one bathroom. We are
tired of having to share the bathroom with the girls. The backyard is
going to be a nice place for the girls and Donegal to play. There is a
good size front living area that we are talking about turning into the
playroom for the kids. We are excited that the trip went so well and
that we were able to start a contract on the house that we want. The
girls have been enjoying the nice weather that we are having here in
STL. Yesterday we spent the later part of the morning outside raking up
the leaves that were left over from fall. The girls were actually
helping for a while and then decided to dump out the leaves that they
were putting in the bag. Heidi was really cute in the fact that she put
the paper bag over her head and starting walking around. The bag is
really tall and so it covered all of her. It was funny to see a
paper bag walking around the yard. She would not get very far before
she would lose her balance and fall over. The girls also enjoyed the
time in their sand box. Well, the girls video is over which means that
they want my attention and will not allow me to type much. I will try
to see if we can get some pics of the girls posted soon. Hope everyone
is having a good week, or at least what is left of it.
