Traditional chinese(the characters)which is complex has been using for about 5000 years.
but when the commnuists took over Chinese Government in china in 1940s,they simplified Chinese characters so that every resident could easily learn their language.
the democratic government were forced to move in Taiwan which were still a part of china,and the traditional chinese has still been using here
anyway,now somebody think that Taiwan is a country which is different from China because we have different governments
but we still have the same culture (taiwan is a bit different cuz Japanese had been governed here from 1896-1945. still some elderly can speak japanese n some places here keep Japanese buildings)
what do chinese people speak? there're lots of dialects among chinese people
Hong Kong:Cantonese Taiwan:Mandarin & Taiwanese China:Mandarin & more
But the general one is "Mandarin" (that's what foreigners learn)
