Monday,Jul 25 2005, 08:32:12 PMToday Interview
Today I went to a job interview. The morning I woke up with excitement. I have been look forward this day! Have 2 bums for breakfast kick then took bus and head to Birmingham New Street station. Bought a Subway sandwich and carry on my journey. The Virgin train I catch to Sheffield. All the long way has no hassle, but noisy kidsssssss! That drive me a bit mad, can’t even focus on reading. After hour and more I reached the Sheffield station. Step into a station I been for almost 3 years ago, outside can see Sheffield University. I was arriving earlier, killed some time with my sandwich on a bench which I had brought early. Sometime I spend around there before I catch a Taxi to a place I have no idea. A few chat with taxi driver, have some information around here. Driver told me that he feeling that I might be a photography businessman from the time I step into the Taxi. (How a clever talk) Some technique question about camera he has asked and I have no problem to give him answer. He also wish me luck for the interview, sweet~
I did arrive earlier than I expected again. So I wondering around at the small town and look what is alike there. After 30 minutes walk, I approach to the Venture studio. First impress the reception area are small but neat and well present. I was sitting in the comfort area for sometime before seeing the owner. I have a look their works from catalogue book and canvas/media from all over the corridor hall. Staffs seem to be warm and friendly. A firm handshake with Colin then we start our interview informally. I been told he have good impress from those photographs that I have in photobox. Also he like my email contain from how I present myself. Then he brought another owner who is from another Studio (who was in that studio at that time) to join in. I hand over my portfolio and they start to appear more well-impress facial. I am please because they really respect my work; they have spent some time for each photo in the folder (and not just flip over). I been told the portfolio I presenting have something they never seen from previous interviews not even in their life time at their working. Something not from an average studio shot. A different and outrange produce they wanting to see. Many students brought them similarity shot for work present, and many have no good impress. But mine is so wide cover from anything. Huge range ~! From full body portraits style to close up cropping.
They ask which Photography university I have been. I told them I never been any and I am self taught. They shocking laugh and look at me seriously. Simon quite keen on the way I play with angle and the feel from photos I created. They ask me do I know to use Photoshop. I replied with ‘Yes, I do’ confidently. (In my heart I am grand, I guess they did not realise most of the works they looking at are have been touch-up. My manipulation are so smooth/realistic and they not even noticing.)
The interview seems went quite well. I been told I may have to work in Sheffield for a month for start and then move to a new studio in Lincoln (fresh new and bigger, what I been told) to join a team if I am successful employ. Salary of course will start from basic because I want to start from bottom-toe to top-hat. However, still is a better offer than what I am having now. Look forward to double up my income!!! Well, now I just have to wait the news within a week. Hope it will be great one! At the end of interview, I ask permit to show me around the building. I saw digital artists working with big LCD screen. And a show room presentation to a customer about product selections. Also two white painted studio with simple set up.
After another firm hand shake (so many hand shake (8-10) from start to the end of interview). I tried to catch taxi back to station, but cannot see one, so I hop to a bus. Did not realise I have over take the ride; I end up to some where I have no clue. After some asking, I took another bus and hop down to a place I missed. Still have no clue where is the station and more asking direction. Finally I found the station I came from, that was so close, I just passing by many times. Silly me ~! That is it, back to Birmingham. Recall the interview I had which I did not expect to be done so smooth and happy.
Good night.

* 懒漫

Saturday,Jul 16 2005, 02:05:43 AMI got my Harry Potter copy ~!
Ladies and Gentlemen: boys and girls.
16th July 2005 is what the Harry Potter’s fans waiting for, a rather long wait. Yes ~! The sixth book and titled as <<Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince>> I was planned to get it at (00.01am) Border Bookshop near Bullring, Birmingham, and meanwhile to join with fans for special events which held at there. Unfortunately, I have to work for late shift; I only managed finished work at 1am. I have gone to the shop but the shop had shut tight. I was disappointed by that.
However, I went pass the Waterstones at High Street, Bullring, Birmingham. I approached to the glass door to try my luck. Oh~ a ‘Station Master’ (one of the shopkeepers) came to me and opened the door. “Are you here for book?” with a smile. I am so excited and reply a big YES! That is no customer in the shop at the late time, only me and shopkeepers. They all seem to be very happy and I feel the warm welcome. Sweet~ the counter guy asked: “For Harry Potter? Adult cover or children cover?” I have all five with children cover, so I chose the children cover for sixth so they all can match up. I replied: “Oh, children cover please~”
He hand over me a Harry paper bag with copy of Harry Potter and Lion Boy inside. They all seem fun and happy, so I offer them for photograph taken and their name for caption use. I appreciate their working spirit ~! I think the others shopkeeper should learn this friendly approach. Keep up the goods, boys and girls!
Just before I left the counter, I took a flavor bean. He warns me not to take the red one because it might a bit spicy. So I chose a green one. Lucky it is nice and sweet with hint of lime sour. Good, at least not earwax flavor or any bad flavor you can or cannot imagine with.
I took a Taxi back home. On the way back, I did have a quick look at the front and back cover for some short preview. I want to read it in best condition, so I keep it for later day when I have free of time. This is what it written:
“It is the middle of the summer, but there is an unseasonal mist pressing against the windowpanes. Harry Potter is waiting nervously in his bedroom at the Dursley’s house in Privet Drive for a visit from Professor Dumbledore himself. One of the last times he saw the Headmaster was in a fierce one-to-one duel with Lord Voldemort, and Harry can’t quite believe that Professor Dumbledore will actually appear at the Dursleys’ of all places. Why is the Professor coming to visit him now? What is it that cannot wait until Harry returns to Hogwarts in a few weeks’ time? Harry’s sixth year at Hogwarts has already got off to an unusual start, as the worlds of muggle and magic start to intertwine…”
The book has 607 pages. Not sure when I will finish reading it. Sure I will spend some quality time with it. And again, Thanks to those great shopkeepers: Matt, Christina, Simon, Joanna, Tim, Sally and another guy (a name not been given, sorry)
