* My New Lens- Canon 50mm f/1.8 II
After I got poison by Dragoon and Tyler. This lens (Canon 50mm f/1.8) was at the end of my list, but now I got it at first before I reach for the others from top list. Simply because I have no enough money to invest to the others right now. Few days’ back, Dragoon told me my top list lens (Canon 17-85mm IS) wanting to sale second hand at RM1600. Wow! So bad I don’t have that much of cash with me otherwise will grip that for sure! I want it so bad…
Azhul, Dragoon, and Tyler. Between three of them are user and also recommend me to get this lens. That is a serious poison for me as this lens is affordable at my current situation. Last night I went to a well known shop, but they have out of stock for this lens. Over there, I saw an uncle bought Canon 1D MKII N, and the charging from CC is RM16K. Yes is 16K with no mistake… wishing I can get some good camera one day like this rich uncle.
Today, I went to Sungai Wang to find my antidote for this serious poison. I went through many shop and they all have different price. From this round of searching, I found most of the sale person either do not have a skill to do sale or don’t fancy to sale a product out from shop. One of the shops priced up RM499 which more expensive than my guide line price. I shocked and tried to ask for better price, but she told me that is the lowest. Well, I am sorry to say this is suck sale person I ever seen. A lens buyer usually checks the market price before come into a shop. And do not tell the consumer a sick price plus not giving negotiation chance at all. From shop to shop I found cheaper price but still not reach to my guide line. Finally I found ‘the shop’ near a corner; the lens in the display. This guy started the price from RM360, then I explained to him that I am from one of the photography societies and the price I got is definite not this. Then a sudden he gave me RM295. I am happy in heart because this is the about price. I tested the lens with my 300D, the lens is plastic build and not so pretty looking. But the image just shocking good for a price like that. It has no USM but I found it is fast enough for normal user like me. The focus ring may be a bit tricky to hold it and the focusing noise, but the overall I am happy with it. So I ask for more, then he gave me RM280. I know he can push further, so bad the poison is ticker in my brain and make me want the lens so much! So I hit the table and say ‘sold!’ I also bought 2 rolls of films and total just RM296… still have RM4 for change. Wahaha ~! Mad! I am shopping like ‘Touch and Buy and Go’…
On the spot I rang to Dragoon and told him I just bought the 50mm. So bad I cannot pass the poison to him yet, this guy still has better lens in his list. Out from the shopping mall, I tested the lens under bright light. The images I capture just pin sharp and fast! Totally fall in love with this little ugly thing. This 50mm definite not versatile like my 18-55mm USM, but the sharpness is a thumb-up for it.
Back to home, I played with this lens in room with window light only. Combination from ISO100 and wide aperture from the lens I have no problem with hand held shooting at all. I did a few self portraits and the DOF effect just great. In future my portraits shooting will be this lens and I will try to utilize this ugly baby for good. Not only portraits, I did few shot for my mobile phone. Aauuuuuw~ my mobile’s portraits came out so sexy looking. They look like product magazine shooting.
Few things I found from this lens. This baby somehow has 5 aperture blades in it; Canon usually goes for even number for aperture blades. May be this lens is an old design. With small amount of aperture blade, the Bokeh for blurring background does not seem so smooth. But I quite like the character from it, not too perfect. Can get 5 stars lens flare effect some more. The focus ring can be adjust even the mode is set under AF. I am wondering is that twistable (full-manual-auto-focus) or I should not do it that way. I will find out about this later date. The coatings on both side of lens are not as smooth as the other lens. Some squeaking noise when I use lens cloth to clean it. I guess this lens has to extra careful with dust as the cleaning is not so friendly.
That it for today, I found, I bought, and I gone mad. Spending RM300 is sure fun!

I went to Mid Valley that day, was there to get my lens since i got poison by Dragoon and Tyler... i withdraw money from ATM (long Q) search for the shop...then i found. after waiting finally have chance to get serve. "what? no stock?" my antidote is not there.... oh no ~!!!!!
went home with empty hand... no shopping done... get bored and gone mad after playing with my Ixus...

* My First PM’s Outing in KL
This first outing was set at Starbucks @ Amcorp Mall. I have to say that was a fun night for me. Since not many of them seeing me before, so I did a spying game with them for the first time I joining their TT. So I can have text to write for this journal and some stealth photos for it.
I left my working place at 7pm and reached the venue at 7.30pm. As soon I got into the Starbucks I saw few Pmers. I got myself a huge mug of coffee and sat by the next table but with my back to them. Several photos I had taken but most of them are blur and under bad composition. But why that? Because I was over excited to doing that! My hands was seriously shaken even I had let the camera stay on the table. And I shot blindly without looking through the VF or LCD. Once I had accidentally turned the flash mode to fill-in. I guess they might have noticed me after the flash.
The most fun I had was playing with Asyraflee. I had SMS him after he bought the drink. “Which coffee drinks you having?” Then he turned to the back and checking around were I am just next by. This smart guy did spot me out and he tried to ring me to confirm. Hello~ I am one step ahead because I expected he will do so and had set my mobile to silent mode previously.
I know Dragoon will join this TT, so I tried to send him a SMS. “Please do not call my name if you seeing me around” and just before I sending this SMS out, I saw him! OMG~ he hasn’t got my message yet. He pointed to me with an ‘eh!’ but with eye contact I guess he understand what I am doing there. So he kept my identity under secret and reaching for the counter for drink. I did not realize he was standing at my back and he did a double cough. Geeezz~ that make me jump!
Azhul knows I will be there and he is smart. He sent me a message with “Are you next to the red pillar?” yes I am here!
By some distances I was watch them poison each other with Cameras and Lenses. Soon later I also got lurk from the poisons. Then I had identified myself in front of them and joined the group. They not really know who is Sean (a guy from Northern), but soon I used aka Canony. They gave me ‘Aar’ and ‘Wah…from the far side?’…etc. I had been asking what system I am using. So I showed them my little baby Canon Ixus in front of their huge DSLR ( ~_~|||) speechless. And for my Canon AE-1P- ‘why this guy still using film huh?’
My portfolio folder was passing around the table at the whole night. Lot of finger prints left on my photos but it was worth to hear some feedbacks from others as well. We changed our location to another restaurant as the Starbucks shutting down. And my portfolio passed around for second times… then to some how reached to Ted. I am glad that night he did not tear off any of my photos but saying ‘red marker pen for A++’.
Almost 1am we have our say good bye time, I drove Asyraflee and Dragoon for home. 2am ish I finally reached my home with tiredness. I went to bed with smile because of these memories I had for that night.
