as i had promised, these 37 from film taken on my PM outing -Street Photography (19032006) . no deletion (bad habit from digital photography).

it quite a big challenge for me as i am new fresh to film photography. Canon AE-1P is a full manual analog SLR. no AF, all MF work out. i am pleased with the result i have here -they are sharp and contrast! some even came by unexpected still (as i thought might be blur when i doing the shot).

talk no more and see it for your self. most of PMers done it BW, but i want different. i use color mode.

* Cameron Highlands – Day 1

Over excited and I was not have a good sleep on Friday night, was surfing on PM at night. On 04 March 2006(Saturday), woke up at 0500 with sleepy eye. Have a quick wash and checked my check list before depart. 0540 I left my house to Mont’ Kiara to meet up at before 0600. Never been to the place so I have extra careful on road even there is only a few ‘morning-bird’ driver on road. Speed on 120Kmh as I don’t want to late and tried to avoid late if I have lost in the direction. Missed took a turn by a confusing road board (also point to Mont’ Kiara but different routine), but I manage to do a quick turn. 0555 I am there and I am not late. But only saw Pete and HappyPhantom, greet and started to wait the others. 

After a while Nelson Hew has arrived and followed tight after few more PMers arrival. We managed to gather in early morning 0615. After that, we had our RM1 Nasi Lemak as our breakfast and I had my extra Neslo for my morning boost. 0700 sharp we left the place and start our journey to Cameron Highland. That was the time my journal starts and photo rolls. My first photo taken at 0701 and the journal start to build up in mind. Lot and lot but frankly say I forgotten what I really want to write at the first place. Sorry…

Nelson Hew and I ride with HappyPhantom. Lot of conversations between Nelson Hew and HappyPhantom and most was about automobile. I just sat there and listen; I should let Nelson Hew sit in front with HappyPhantom and perhaps sleep at the back sit. Lucky I did not all you might miss some shot I taken. HappyPhantom not a bad driver at all, his VIOS managed to over take Caveman’s Ford and Pete’s Estima. Of course I never miss the chance to record our overdrive. Hehe ~! But that was not for long; Caveman has boosted his machine and vanished in the front of us. Vroom~

We pulled off at a rest station for quick release (you know). Then we continued our exciting journey. Same Nelson Hew and HappyPhantom keep chit-chatting. So did I, non stop adjusting my camera setting to suit the scene and of course shooting the bullet. On the up hill road we never see Caveman car’s smoke at all, he vanished long away. VIOS followed the back of Estima; those crazy people in Pete’s car also never stop playing with the walky-talky. Especially the Leslie paging all the time for laugh since the early departs. Soon after our communication devise does not work well and we keep losing contact (could be low radio wave or blocking by army’s system). I am quickly bored up with slow uphill, but I found a soft toy in HappyPhantom’s car and upgraded my journey with The Square Pants Sponge Bob! Seriously this fellow car filled with cute things, all cartoon things even his lovely umbrella has cartooned.

We met up with Maxby, Didifion, Noordin, etc…in the food court. 1130 we have our late breakfast (may be brunch). 1200 we went to our booked apartment to unload and get ready for serious shooting. When we arrived at our apartment, the owner (an aunty) of the apartment suddenly asked:"Are they all of your sons?" "Why so many of your 'sons' look so leng cai?” *pai seh* I think Maxby did reply with “they are not my sons”.

I thought we will come back again to apartment before go for sunset scene. But it was not and I just made a wrong decision that I did not take my tripod out with me. The sky was bright enough and managed to escape some slow shutter, that luck! More luck, I don’t have to carry that heavy weight tripod with me. It might just slow down my speed for shooting but the consequence is to be extra careful on handheld. This trip I just tried to explore both body that brought along the Canon AE-1P (manual analog film SLR ) and Canon 300D (DSLR). My last trip to Cameron Highlands was with a tour group and the places I went not really for nature photography and it was rain. But this time with lot PMers we went to a place I look for and expected to have. And I won’t miss a chance to shot the bullet and of course my same hobby buddies. Actually I pay more attention to my film SLR as I believed it could give me better photo depth.

Then fulamak ~! Realizing I only have ¾ rolls in the film cassette, and then I have to more careful to what to shot. Have to leave some for later, so tight in my mind. Back to journal part… I have my Sponge Bob shooting and Ms J has her doll shooting. She has her style I have my style, so much fun! After the tea farm visiting we went to a tea canteen 1350. The BOH Tea canteens, then we have a quick break there for tea, coffee, and cake in a nice fresh environment. Habit for most photographers, we have never stop for shooting. Never ~! And Fahmie eat again with double portion so we did teasing him about his eating quantity. From 0630 early breakfast, 1130 brunch, then 1350 afternoon tea….hooo~ all double portion. He eats lot like a starving pregnancy woman.

After the relaxing Tea Canteen we went for more tea farm shooting. They might look all the same but actually not. Each has their line and the formation, characterize? Then then then and then…we went more loh~ some nice experience on hill road. And then 1650 we have a break at a fruit shop. Strawberry is one of the attractions in Cameron Highlands, so some of them have Strawberry drinks. I am ice-cream fan, so I have a fresh strawberry salad ice-cream. Emmmm…tasty! Guess what! Fahmie came back with a bag of Jambu Air (kind of fruit) 1700. He said that is for his mother as a gift, but we seeing him eating/biting the fruit(s). Not for while the bag of fruit finished by him. And his excuse is “want to make sure mum can have some good tasty fruits so he has to try up before bring it back” right….@_@ some more he claimed Leslie took the last fruit. wahahah

1815 we went to a golf club area. If no mistake we were there for sunset shooting. Weird huh? I also don’t know why I was there for as we have no sunset to shot. There we met Tomie and Jamestyy group. I could say I do not fire much bullet but did testes up some lenses. I was bit tired and worry about the quantity bullets I have in film body so I did not pay much attention to lensa-lensi-lenses… not my talking though. I was standing, walking and patrolling the place for nothing. 1915 we left that area and headed to our dinner!!! 1945 we are at the front of the steamboat house. There were some sunset scene but not pretty enough to shot, but I never miss a chance and give it a shot. And then *auto turn off* OMG ~!!!! Battery flatted… taking the faith and walked into the restaurant to cure my tummy.

That was a luxury meal we have. I could say that single meal can replace for my few days usual meals. It was so much and so nice. The table I sat was only small amount of members but we were fast and scary… nothing is left on the table (beside we did extra ordered) and that also gone in split second! My film roll was finished and digital’s battery flatted, so I did not have many good shot of this luxury meal. By the way, that day was Didifion’s birthday, so we bought her a cake and celebrate with her. Of course we have our attentions from others customer from our noise. Oh~ we met a group of hardcore photographer from Ipoh, most of them were that kind ‘fully loaded’ cannon launcher. Imagine 2 groups of photography hobbyists sitting under the same roof. I feel like in the movie of old time in China (Jiang Hu Wu Shi- ancient hero warrior) May suddenly hit and turn the table for fight. Under pressure of threaten (Gangster fighting). Haha, just joke~ just my rich imagination.

2220 we went to our apartment and thing happen as I expected. Digital world main problem is the power source. yes…the battery charging issues. We almost can blow up the apartment with the electric power that we consuming. 1 photographer may need to charge his camera batteries, flash gun batteries, mobile phone battery, and others electronic stuff. We have more than 10 in the apartment, so you make the count. Scary?

That night we suppose to rest early because we have to wake up early for next day sunrise shooting. But some stayed at lounge for football match, and some chatting out the apartment. Nelson Hew went out to meet his mates… and Dragoon and I have some late night chats. We were tired but after some fun conversation we lost our sleepy sense. Some laughs about others and PMers. Some kind of uncontrollable laughing, I have to reduce my noise with sleeping bad pressing on my mouth. We were complaining ourselves talk too much and will not have enough sleep later. But we still continue for laugh and chat. But in the sudden, I did not get any reply from Dragoon and it was so silent in the room. Oh man~ this guy was fast in sleep. Believe or not, before 5 seconds he was still bubbling then the after he just fall into sleep. Of course from the loneness silent I also fall into sleep, but not as fast as him.

Today- 19032006 i went for Street Photography in KL. This is my first time and i can tell you it is fun. You need a small group peoples who have same hobby to do the trick (bravery add). you will more dare to point the camera/lens to any object on the street as you know some one could help you up if you are in trouble. but it is a tire day, near the end just sit there and watched/waited at side. to see others shooting as i am out of idea by there more than hours at same place.

I was with film, so cannot burst too much. wanting to do break-dance shooting, but no body know to dance and only me...and no one know what i want. ai~  so i only have one shot done by self-timer, hope it come out nice. of course, once i did it i have to re-do as other saw the fun.

I went to bed 3am and woke up at 6am ...to meet and drive KVCT to Merdeka Square. 7am we reached there, we are early (suppose 730am meet up the group) but we had some bonus shots. there was Marathon event there, so we snap a few of it. then we meet up the group at 8am, yup they were late.

I chose the Pudu Raya routine, so we all walked from Merdeka Square to Pudu's area. never miss a chance to shot for those digital user. i have to choose carefully on shooting as i have limited film to shot. George was offered me a free roll of BW on friday night (to make me come to this shooting), but he did not show up. Lucky i prepared a roll colour negative in my bag in early.

We tried not to get much attention from others citizens to get nature shot, but cannot help with my group's photography equipments. their advance camera , big tele and monopod... hahah
We been many places and i cannot recall as my wake-up level not so good. walking like zombie in the city. wanted to pratice my panning again, but no good car today in town, so i did not have any panning shot. walk walk walk and shot shot shot...ah ha! now i remember one funny scene we have. near the bus station i saw a guy with interesting jacket. some writing behind him, so i pulled out my AE-1P and started following him. whole time i with the view finder aiming and walking behind him just to wait for the moment, of course my MF have to be fast and accurate. i did 1 shot, hope it will be okay. and the others 2 photog joined my fun, then they were following him closely in behind. so funny! imagine few photogs and cameras pointing to a guy's back side and following at the same time on a busy street. almost like chasing duck. hahah

okay lah, the last point we stop at the station some where we have been (we turned back to the place) then just watching Ted do his street portraits. we cannot invlove with any so we just sit there and wait. bored. later we went for lunch at a Mamak restaurant around there. few drinks and foods we have a call for day. then all of us go home. tata...byebye.....

on the way back i went to Digicolor to check out my strobe. long way to drive and i arrieved there, and it closed.haha nvm drive back home then...another long ride.

back to home, took a quick shower and snap myself into bed. ZZzzzzz... 'buzzz'* phone rang* woke up answered the call then i am awake....until now i typing this loh~

the 2nd pix was directed by me as well. i wanted to do this shot for time ago but do not have model to do it for me. so i put myself in as model and asked KVCT to take a shot for me (with her eyes). result not really i am after but the concept is there. so is a okay. thx to KCVT helps.
