beirut hit by deadly street battles
@* "Eight people have been killed and 15 people wounded in Lebanon, according to security sources, as the country's political crisis threatens to spiral out of control.
Fighting in Beirut intensified on Thursday, the second day of anti-government protests, after a speech by Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader, in which he called a government crackdown on the Shia group "tantamount to a declaration of war"."

@* "BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon's Iranian-backed Hezbollah took control of the Muslim part of Beirut on Friday, tightening its grip on the city in a major blow to the U.S.-backed government.
Security sources said at least 11 people had been killed and 30 wounded in three days of battles between pro-government gunmen and fighters loyal to Hezbollah, a Shi'ite political movement with a powerful guerrilla army."

I hope one of these days will have some peace on their lands...
If is not another country attackin' them they attack eachothers...
I feel pitty for the innocent lifes that were lost...
Politicians suck big time, they don't even listen what is the wish of their own people...

@ioneluca, i agree. people should actually send a clear message to their politicians about their priorities, which undoubtedly is peace.
5/9/2008 6:40 PMRe: Re: Re: beirut hit by deadly street battles
yes.. if is unity and, as i heard the majority is against this, they should wake up and do something once and for all... they should chose one way and that is the future... they live in present too much and not thinking too much at the future...
i am outsider and is easy to judge for me... but this is how i see things...
i lived a revolution in my country and i am glad that people had the power to raise against communism...

@tom, looks like the same scenario last year, remember?. soon enough the usual brainwashed clerics from both sides will start issuing fatwas calling to kill each other in another mini-civil war.

@athebadsoul *sigh* who said i'm happy about it moron?. the ultimate absurdity of people shouting "free palestine and free lebanon" is that they can't even live in peace among themselves.
only a bigot like you and a handful of brainwashed would ignore such an obvious tragedy and still try to justify it blaming others.

@athebadsoul, i called you a moron because only an infantile mind could possibly interpret that i was "happy" about this s*it. i called you a bigot because instead addressing the actual problem in lebanon you chose to blame other parties, when some self-criticism is required.

@athebadsoul, i simply believe that you're most comfortable avoiding the truth that sunni and shia are capable and actually killing each other in lebanon, and that it's their sole responsability.
if the usual "conspiracy theories" ease your pain and makes you feel better, go ahead.
ps. about zero/binary system. *smiles* i'm not living in denial. if you simply take the time to check the link you gave me you will see that both subjects are dated back 400BC to india.

Etymology
The word "zero" came via French zéro from Venetian zero, which (together with "cipher") came via Italian zefiro from Arabic صفر, şafira = "it was empty", şifr = "zero", "nothing", which was used to translate Sanskrit śūnya ( शून्य ), meaning void or empty.
Italian zefiro already meant "west wind" from Latin and Greek zephyrus; this may have influenced the spelling when transcribing Arabic şifr.[5] The Italian mathematician Fibonacci (c.1170-1250), who grew up in Arab North Africa and is credited with introducing the Hindu decimal system to Europe, used the term zephyrum. This became zefiro in Italian, which was contracted to zero in Venetian, the modern English word.
As the Hindu decimal zero and its new mathematics spread from the Arab world to Europe in the Middle Ages, words derived from sifr and zephyrus came to refer to calculation, as well as to privileged knowledge and secret codes. According to Ifrah, "in thirteenth-century Paris, a 'worthless fellow' was called a "... cifre en algorisme", i.e., an "arithmetical nothing"."[5] From şifr also came French chiffre = "digit", "figure", "number", chiffrer = "to calculate or compute", chiffré= "encrypted". Today, the word in Arabic is still sifr, and cognates of sifr are common in the languages of Europe and southwest Asia.
The Indian numerals and the positional number system were introduced to the Islamic civilization by Al-Khwarizmi, the founder of several branches and basic concepts of mathematics. In the words of Philip Hitti, Al-Khwarizmi's contribution to mathematics influenced mathematical thought to a greater extent. His work on algebra initiated the subject in a systematic form and also developed it to the extent of giving analytical solutions of linear and quadratic equations, which established him as the founder of Algebra. The word algebra is derived from the title of his famous book Al-Jabr wa-al-Muqabilah, and the word algorithm is derived from his name.

firas 19, Beirut, Lebanon
hi guys, thnx 4 the topic!
i wanna say few things,
well yea unfortunantly there has been street fights in Beirut but the army is taking controle of it and should end it very soon..
actually the conflict is Not sunni chia or christian.., its between political parties (pro-goverment and opposition}
Hezbullah (as the majority of Lebanese think) is not a terrorist organization it s a lebanese resistance against Israily violations.. and they arn t the ones who started the fights in beirut there has been a manifistation and they were defending themself against an armed Militia attack..
And the real problem in Lebanon alot more than just betwen lebanese.. the series of political assassinations (more than 15) starting from late prime minister Hariri and though there has been an international investigations the criminals are still unvisible, the "Fath al Islam" terrorist group, and latelly the july 2006 war in which Israel and the USA tried 2 destroy Hezbullah.. and alot more which prove that "stability in Lebanon" is a problem for some goverments that needs 2 be solved..
and finally the lebannese people r not ready 2 repeat the civil war!! the biggest obstacle against "unity" we re facing is political conflicts which has taken too long and will end only by dialogue and negotiation not by "fights"..
hope that there will be peace everywhere not just in Lebanon!
have a nice day!!

yea ofcorse that s what pro-goverment media keep saying but that doesn t mean it s really what s going on,
there has been street battles between hezbullah and pro-goverment MILITIAS in Beirut but Hezbulla is not "invading" Beirut he is retreating and leaving controle to the Lebanese army.
but also any of this shouldn t happened..
