Is this cheating?
Well, here is the thing, i work and provide for the house, an we ar living fine on 700 a week, and well i have a chance to make extra cash, well havingthe chance, anyhow, i did not tell the household about it, they think i go to my regular job while i am accually doing about 200 extra on the side they dont know about, if i tel the family i am gonan end p putting it for the house, or keep the extra cash for me and not say anything, what is your input..
keep the family blind and keep the money, or let them know and use the extra money for the household?

If you feel like you're taking it from them then don't and tell them about the extra 200. If it's all the same then go for it after all you're the one earning it.

yes, If this was me I would be happy to tell them, really can't understand why he wants to hide this information anyways .
The things in life that make me happy is knowing I have made others happy. I guess that is why I love Christmas so much too, beacuse I just love to see the happiness in peoples faces . I would also call what he calls "cheating"
selfish. I could not hide it :P Thats just me though .

you should tell your family about it regardless if the house need it or not. You make it sound as if you are steeling the extra 200$ you earn while you are working to earn it. well i think if the family is roll'n in it so to speak, so all their needs and a few desires are met.. and he wants to hide a lil away for a rainy day when they might need it, without telling them so they wont wanna spend it.. that's cool .. but to hide it for selfish gain? hmm :(

i agree honesty is good.. but that too is why i asked if the family needed it.. to get into more details such as spending habits.. never know.. might have one of those sisters or such that wanna buy everything they see at the market when it's not needed.. so rainy day saving would be good.. as the parents are aging and may need some help later on.. something like this unexpectedly could make all the difference they need..

ya know it's how ppl should be these days.. and any days for that matter.. but they are not.. seems to be an all about ME society.. the young dont help the old anymore.. or so it seems.. that's why we got social security problems i suppose.. ppl now days wanna have it all and not return anything unless it has a direct payout to the self.. .. so sad :S

very wisely said. I agree with Sam! If he provived for the household then he should be honest within that household. If the family is an important part of his life he shouldn't be selfish. From a Western point of view the man is not the provider of the family, however I believe that it is the obligation of a man to pay the bills and provide for his family, so I also think he should be honest and fair.

If you have to ask the question I think you already know the answer.
The other important thing is if you kept it what would you do with it? Rainy day money is good but I think spending on anything else you would go on a guilt trip sooner or later.

now ya get my point? This is the answer, to his problem: the obligation of the breadwinner is to provide on the needs based on the standard that is acceptable to both people concerned. I knew lots of fathers who workrd overseas who made it a rule that their overtime pay, is theirs to spend on their personal needs. i didn't make them bad fathers for doing so. a big responsibility is being given to breadwinners and there fore they are allowed to enjoy some perks. cos really, overtime job means working on a time supposedly spent on rest. now who would say that a person is bad for resting? so i say keep it!

well sweetheart the car runs on fuel too... if u want the car to go faster it needs maintenance and better equipment. in the long run... u take care of the person that brings in he cash... it's not just logic but basic.

can't u see? can't u read behavior? the reason that he is feeling guilty means that he is a good guy. But never said it was not ok to spend money on ourselves. You missed my point. The money just comes all from the one pot. Secrets can have a nasty habit of causing lots of problems. So always found honesty is the best way to go.

If you feel a bit guilty about the whole situation and you still want some extra money for yourself, why not talk to your family and do it both ways?
100 bucks for the household/family, 100 bucks for yourself
At the end, everyone should be happier ~
You told the truth, there is no guilt or any bad feeling anymore, you can support the family with more money and still you can save up for yourself (cause that's important too, we all do need those extra's for just in cause)
