What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

A Letter To Dad

Here's a part of my letter to my dad for father's day... just being sentimental again... but anyway, Happy Father's Day to all Fathers! Most especially to my Dad, to my brother and to my Mahal...

......

I want to tell you that I love you very much. You are the best father in the world. You've been there for me in every way possible: emotionally, mentally and physically. All my life, you've been my hero and your relationship with Mom was equally inspiring. When I was a little girl, for a long time, I truly believed that you were the most knowledgeable person I knew. If there was anything I didn't know, I was pretty sure that you would know. When I was a teenager, you gave me so much chance to get to know the people and the outside world. I believed that you were the most experienced in most occasions. When i became an adult, each time I faced difficulties, your encouragement always accompanied me. I realized that the word "dad" became a powerful symbol to me. I have so many dreams that I want to accomplish in my life, and I am what I am now because of you and Mom. I just want to let you know how important you are to me and how much I love you and Mom. Thank you so much for all the love and support all these years.

Happy Father's Day Daddy!

Your daughter,

Ping

Eight Things

8 Things I'm Passionate About:

    * My Mahal - Can you be passionate about a person? Haha. Well I am, because he's awesome.
    * My family. They are the best people I know and I don't know where I would be without them.
    * My friends. I'm probably one of the luckiest people around with what kick ass friends I have. No really, I mean it, they rock.
    * Movies. I love watching movies and thanks to the torrent clients (Okay, I guess I’m supporting piracy! :p But not really endorsing!) now I download movies old and new and watch it when I can, in the comfort of my bedroom or anywhere else quiet!
    * Reading. I love reading.
    * Traveling. I can never sit still. The moment I get back from one trip I'm anxious for my next one. I love traveling and visiting new places and friends, it's always exciting.
    * Pictures. I love taking and posting pictures (of myself):p
    * My Job. I couldn’t imagine how much I love the job that I’m doing now…

8 Things I'd like to do before I die:

    * Own a house and have a family, wee.
    * Travel through Europe, most importantly Italy, Greece, and Switzerland.
    * Climb to the top of a rock wall (I've made it about halfway, if that, every time I tried, it scares the bejesus out of me).
    * Go to the Academy Awards (more specifically a year that Keanu Reeves would be there, haha).
    * Visit all 50 states and be with some of my best friends!
    * Have a small part in a TV show.
    * Cook a Christmas dinner for my whole family.
    * Be completely and utterly happy.

8 Things I say a lot:

    * "No, seriously."
    * "WTF"
    * "No way"
    * "Really..."
    * "who was that again?..."
    * "Bwahaha"
    * "Snap!"
    * "I love you" / "Mahal na mahal kita"

8 Movies I have seen 8 times:

    * Sound Of Music. I guess it’s more than 8 times, but who cares! :p
    * Speed. My most favorite movie ever! Ever!
    * Ever After (The Cinderella Movie). Seriously, how can you not love this movie?
    * If Only. I'm pretty sure I watched this movie 8 times alone.
    * Bruce Almighty.
    * The Nanny Diaries.
    * Bee Movie. Don't ask me why, but I've seen this one more than any of the other cartoon movies, it's just so good. Plus I use it to get the children’s attention mostly.
    * Titanic.
    * The Last Holiday.
    * Ratatouille.
    * Underdog. Again because of nieces and nephews~ but it's a good movie. *wink-wink*
    * August Rush.

lol! I lost count! I did more than 8 movies on my list!!! :p

I feel like I've run out of things to say.

Or more accurately, I feel like I've got so much to say I don't even know where to start.

It's not such a fun feeling.

Hurt Feelings

Before you fireback, look for intentions...

"We often hear people say how much a friend’s offhanded comment hurt, but if you ask if they think the comment was really intended to hurt, they usually ponder a bit and finally say, well, no. If we all looked behind the minor statements that happens to rub us the wrong way and searched to see if there was a blatant intention to cause pain, a lot of time-wasting feuding and heartache could have been avoided."

I wish I had learned this sooner, as I was so beaten down and also very sensitive… often also misconstruing things people said to me as they misconstrued my words too.

In growing older and wiser (hehehe), I've come to the determination that not everything is black and white as there is a gray matter on top of a rainbow of other colors. :p

Back Tracking Human Z Success...

I was not aware I posted something on this site...God i was not aware until now that I found it! (http://www.topix.com/forum/city/los-angeles-ca/TAR5UF5VRV620CE3I )

But anyway, yeah I did! It reads:

SuccesZ!
Tuesday,Sep 25 2007, 02:11:20 AM (Last updated: Friday,Sep 28 2007, 10:03:35 AM)

Let’s start with how happy I am in the present moment. Fulfilled i guess is the best way to describe the feeling. I had an assignment at work and the results were fun and surprisingly successful.

I’ve got to admit that I was not expecting it. I was just expecting the good to come my way and to the people who were there to help me make that assignment a success for the charity, so we can somehow make a difference to the lives of children who are abused, abandoned and the likes through ABS-CBN Foundation's Bantay Bata 163. It did not only make a difference to their lives but to my own life too!

The assignment was to get people to stand in the form of a Z, the Human Z Project which was recently promoted by Zorpia.com . It’s a project true to its mission, to help others in a fun and easy way. Its description got my attention, it said:“The Human Z Project is your chance to use Zorpia to make a difference to the world. Simply be standing in the shape of a Z, and taking a photograph, you can raise money for your favourite charity. If Zorpia is anything, it’s a global community. So this is our chance to use our numbers for a global cause, and have some fun along the way! So what are you waiting for? Start making some Zs!“

This jump-started me to start inviting universities, colleges and some organizations in the Philippines, and only one College responded to it. I am a proud Alumni of Roosevelt College Cainta Rizal. I finished secondary school from there a long time ago, and I never thought my previous teachers still recognizes me. I sure have changed a lot in so many ways. A decade and a half after I graduated from the school and it’s surprising that they still remember me. Mrs. Edelisa Sapo, our graceful and beautiful 4th year adviser, was there to support me, with her husband Mr. Vic Sapo who also teaches at the same college. Mr. Elmer del Rosario, Mrs. Elizabeth Rayos, Mrs. Carlota Casalme, Mr. Fernando Jorge, Mr. Adriano Vizcayda and his wife Mrs. Ellen Vizcayda, Mrs. Ma. Conchita F. Patricio, and all of the beautiful Faculty and Staffs of Roosevelt College Cainta Rizal. Forgive me if I have forgotten some names though! And of course, how can I forget, the students of the College! That was an amazing job well done to all of them, for the cooperation during the photo shoot!

To all the media who responded to the calls too, Ms. CK dela Cruz was first, Mr. David Dizon, Ms. Maris Mortel, Mr. PJ Caña, Mr. Ramil Gulle, Ms. Noemi Fernando, Miss Jenny Lee Villanueva from ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163 and of course to Ms. Tina Monzon-Palma.

Zorpia.com rocks and the Human Z Project rock the Philippines too when Mr. Jeffrey Ng, CEO of Zorpia Company Limited and Mr. Mike Enjo, Project Manager of Zorpia.com came to the Philippines to personally award the check donation to Bantay Bata 163 and personally thank Roosevelt College Cainta Rizal by visiting the school and meeting the President and Chairman of the Board of Roosevelt college System, Mr. Romeo P. dela Paz.

Five days of fun, fun, fun! Never minding how tired our bodies were, we just have to make every moment memorable and fun-filled. Thanks to the whole Zorpia Manila Team for being there too!

Zorpia is not just some social networking site.. it's a company with a heart, it has visions... and I am proud to be a Zorpian!

h0pee
http://www.zorpia.com/h0pee

My Sentiments

There is always something unsettling when you hear of someone passing away, no matter how detached you may be from the poor soul who has moved on to the next life.

A couple of weeks ago, my Dad’s Uncle passed away. A week after, his wife also passed away. Their death is a loss to me, not in the painful sense, yet still a loss I feel deeply.

It somehow reminds me of my own mortality, and the mortality of the people close to me. Worse, it magnifies my fears of losing loved ones close to the age of the one who passed away. I have been blessed to have suffered through only one death of someone truly dear to me. Both my parents are still alive and in relatively good health, but it cannot be denied that age is catching up with them. As the years go by, they age day by day and I cannot do anything but hope and pray that they stay on a little longer.

Both my grandfathers died by the time I was discerning enough to know how special a grandparent could be. My paternal grandmother, passed away when I was 3. My maternal grandmother still is very healthy past her 88th birthday and I still see her from time to time. I cherish times spent with her because I have missed her dearly in the last four years I have been here on the other side of the world.

My Mom, when I get the chance to go home, it tears my heart apart to have to see my mom having difficulty walking because of the damage the stroke had done to her leg muscles. She has recovered since and we continue to look after her health. I would savor the home cooked meals and the times we get to chat about just anything under the sun. I love to hear her laughter and I like the feel of her arm in mine when we take a stroll through the malls or the park. We have always been a tactile family. Just being together was never enough. We always have to feel the reassurance of touching one another. Perhaps that is why despite its being considered outdated by most, and even if I don't do it all the time, I still make "mano" when I get home from a hard day's work, just to feel my dad and mom's hand touching my forehead.

So! Enough of my sentiments! Just putting on journal what I feel today as I start my day! It’s going to be a busy week still for Events Planning! Arggghhh! Wish me luck everyone!

Kikev, I will see you when I see you!

Today at mid-afternoon, I received a text message from my cousin… the text message reads: “Hi, how are you? Kev (my nephew) the other day after bath said, Mama where is Mommy Ping?” (That is how they call me, by my pet name Ping) . After I read the text message, I felt tears forming in my eyes as I was reminded of the short times I spent with them last April.

My first encounters with them was a little bit awkward since I am mending a broken heart… and the last place I would love to be around at would be a place full of screaming kids. With them so close by, it makes me happy just being around them to play some games, laugh with them, read to/with them, watch a movie with them and teach them. Go to the local park and see them so happy being out there to play with their carts and run all over the place like they never get tired.

I have spent several times with Steve when they come to Manila to visit, so he already knows me and is comfortable with a seemingly strict looking Aunt whom they fondly call Mommy Ping. Marcuz too grew up seeing me around, so it’s never really awkward for him to see me around. It’s Brandon, Kevin and Charles (boys) & (girls) Nicole and Keisha who were never used to seeing me around. At first, they were too shy and they’d never talk. Of course, brilliant technologies like having a camera phone helped! I would sometimes let them play some car racing games on my cellular phone and next thing I know, they would already look for me! (What a pity though because most times they would look for me because they want to play car race on my cp!)

But here now, after reading the text message, it made me realize that they began to get to know me as me and not because of the cellphone games. That thought touched my heart like I wanted to get on the next flight available to be with them again… but of course, I have to stay where I’m at to do some work… so my dearest nieces and nephews, Mommy Ping will see you as soon as I get the time. See you when I see you my beloved nieces and nephews!”
