I am an Amerikan guy who lives in in Applegate Kalifornia 40 miles northeast of Sacramento up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains I was in the Helliniki Demokratia 40 years ago and spent one night in Thessaloniki we stayed at what was then the brand new Capitol Hotel there it is probably something else today since it has been 40 years however I remember that night there was one beautiful closed off street that was reserved for cafes and nightlife we were on our way to Turkey where the US Government had assigned my father who was with the ministry for the petra to go and look for iron ore deposits in eastern Turkey and on our way there we were in Thessaloniki,Xanthi,Drama,and crossing the border at Alexandropolis then continuing on to Istanbul then Ankara where I lived for 19 months I was only 9-11 years old then but it was quite an adventure I took a few trips out to Gordium about 50 miles outside of Ankara where Alexander the Great cut the famous knot and I saw a lot of sights while there many of them were Greek and Roman it would be nice to see the Thraki and Anatolia region again and how much has changed in 40 years.
