Biography:

A little bit about the band...

Multi-Platinum and three time GRAMMY Award winning band Jars of Clay launched its career with its hit, “Flood,” in 1995. Since then, it’s amassed more than five million in career sales (5 Gold, 2 platinum and 1 double platinum certifications), three GRAMMY Awards, an American Music Award nod, 17 No.1 radio hits, and numerous film credits and BMI honors for songwriting and performing.

It’s the dichotomy of living in the physical and human world that Jars of Clay explores in their new project Good Monsters, giving both longtime listeners and new fans a glimpse at the veteran band’s creative dichotomy as well. It’s not about eradicating one side to glorify the other. It’s about figuring out how to reconcile one with the other. It’s about finding the good within the monster. In order to find balance, neither of two sides can exist without the other. Within the first few seconds of the opening track that you’ll realize Good Monsters is unlike any Jars of Clay album you’ve heard before!

While celebrated for its music and writing, Jars of Clay is most concerned with the needs in Africa. Compelled to make a difference, members Dan Haseltine, Stephen Mason, Matt Odmark and Charlie Lowell founded the Blood:Water Mission in early 2002. The first effort of this non-profit was the “1000 Wells Project” with a goal of raising funds to build, rebuild and repair 1000 wells in urban and rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa. To date, over 300 projects have been constructed bringing clean water to more than 100,000 people.

Hello Friends and Fans everywhere!

Matt here, just wanted to electronically reach out and touch you all with some hot news from the JOC camp.

We have successfully completed our first 3 shows of the Music Builds Tour, and if the midwest is any indication it is going to be a great tour. What a monstrous bill of heavy hitters! We did want to pass along however that if you are planning to come out to Music Builds you should know that Jars goes on the first of the four bands, which most nights means we hit the stage at 6pm SHARP! So don't wander in at quarter to 7 and be all "wait, wha? jars is already over? dang it!" cause you will miss 35 power packed minutes of killer new tunes and reinventions of some of the hits of yesteryear. Also I should mention that the tour and our website are currently the only two places that you can get physical copies of our new "Closer" EP, which comes with yacht-tastic free poster inside! You don't want to miss this one, the new tunes are a bit of an appetizer for what the new record will sound like that is currently slated to drop in March 09.

I should also mention that you should check out the new merch designs up at our online store. There are some sweet new t's just in time for heading back to school so that all of your friends will know what a hip and discriminating music fan you are. ha.

That's all for now...more news about our Christmas plans coming soon!

yours truly,
-matt, and the rest of jars of clay
