My city has a Plan to reduce energy use and our contribution to Climate Change. Years were spent planning and creating our Plan. City Hall adopted the plan last year. Groups of residents were eager to see the Plan adopted. Now we have record energy prices and Climate trouble are headline news quite often. Yet our Plan is ignored. The groups of residents who were so eager to see the Plan adopted are suddenly silent. |

| City goes into debt for entertainment
Unions give a lot of support to Democratic campaigns, and Democratic politicians reward unions by voting for legislation that benefits unions. So it is rather surprising that Worcester Democrats would demand city unions to make financial sacrifices while rewarding the incompetent city manager with a large pay raise. While Worcester Democrats praise Michael V. O’Brien’s efforts to bring semipro baseball, hockey and football to the city, elementary schools are closed and high schools go unrepaired. While the global economy requires an educated work force, Worcester Democrats congratulate themselves for major entertainment projects in the city. CitySquare is all about entertainment; semipro sports teams are all about entertainment; and the new performing arts center near City Hall is all about entertainment. Worcester has a proud manufacturing history with an emerging biotechnology industry. While Worcester should be preparing residents to be competitive in the global economy, Worcester Democrats are busy putting the city in debt to finance entertainment projects. Worcester needs to produce and use renewable energy technologies. Worcester has the manufacturing facilities and the educational institutions to become a major producer of renewable energy technologies, yet the Worcester Democrats foolishly waste resources on entertainment projects. Rep. Binienda,
I was very glad to read that you will be seeking re-election. There are obvious challenges facing the city of Worcester, the state of Massachusetts, the United States, and this entire global community. And it is more than just Global Climate Change and our energy problem.
I'm very concerned about an erosion of our democracy. People are much too apathetic today, allowing government to create fiascos like the Big Dig. Special interests are allowed to have too much influence in government because of our apathy.
What is needed is leadership to tell the people to get involved in their community and in government. My attempts at government involvement is easily ignored by City Hall. If it's just a few people like me getting involved, then government becomes corrupted by the special interests. The general public needs to be involved.
Getting involved should be made easy. The current set up makes involvement very difficult for people. Requiring people to attend downtown meetings is making government involvement very difficult for many people. In fact, I refuse to serve on City Commissions that require attendance at nightime downtown meetings.
I would love to participate in government. But I shouldn't be required to attend downtown meetings at night.
