Ezine marketing

Monday,May 12 2008, 04:59:01 AM

Besides providing your website with high quality content, ezine articles also provide you with an excellent benefit: a high ranking backlink.  What is a "back link" you ask.  Well it certainly is not linking your arms together with another person back to back.  Rather it has to do with search engine optimization.  A backlink is similar to a footnote in a research paper, except that it is
more liberal in its use.

In a research paper, a footnote indicates an elaboration of a point in the body of a page.  In a webpage, a backlink is a reference pointing to a page which exists on another computer!

Besides this benefit, these high quality articles are generally free and most are already formatted in HTML.  So it is very easy to include the article straight into your website.  No fuss, quick and easy.  One thing I should mention, the backlink points to the author of the article, so you don't get both: the free high quality article and the backlink.

This is how you are paying the author for his creative endeavors.  You are giving him a link towards his website.  It's actually a win-win situation.  The author writes a great article, you get it for free, he gets a backlink for his efforts.  What could be more fair?

If the article gets wide distribution, the author will begin to see a trail of breadcrumbs all pointing towards his website. This trail could come from all over the world or it could just be inside the US.

The point of the idea is that one article could conceivably create many many backlinks to the author's website thus pushing his page rank higher and higher.

One limiting factor to this wonderful scenario is that the more the article is duplicated all over the web, the less effective the backlinks become.  This is because Google, love them or hate them, tries very hard to avoid spam in any conceivable way shape or form.

To them, 1,000 clones of one article with the exact same backlink location is considered spam and could actually hurt the author's website. For this  reason many ezines will limit the distribution of these articles.  Now this in turn burdens the author by forcing him/her to write  more  original articles to increase his backlinks.

The system seems to be one of the few stable methods of improving the value of a website. As long as the author keeps writing original
articles, the search engines will keep ranking his site higher and higher because of the increasing number of back links.

One other thing that is not good about this back linking strategy is that the author can not choose to which websites his articles will be released to.  If he could choose the distribution to high ranking websites, he could achieve a higher ranking sooner with a smaller number of articles.  Let me explain,  it is much better that an author receive back links from sites that are high ranking than from sites that have low ranking.  A way to look at this is to ask yourself this question, who would you rather get recognition from celebrities or
complete unknowns?

For those that love to write or find it easy to put pen to paper, article marketing is a tried and true way to obtain long term online success. In combination with a list buidling system like the OMS  system, can have you making money from selling products to your list or selling leads from your list. It's really all up to you.
