came back to US =) the rest of my entries..

Day 16 - 8/26

Just a normal MK shopping day today. Went to 花園 tea restaurant at MK to eat... Basically bought up the rest of the stuff on my shopping list.... finished up buying all the movies on my bro's list pretty much (except the pirate ones.... I'll try again later) except a few which I think are either not released yet or just not exist anywhere in HK. I also got most of the softwares I had planned to buy now... except for .NET Studio (which I think I might not get at all now... I dunno, it still depends) and the graphics softwares (coming to think about it I might not get them now). Played some GGXX against this guy at New Town mall (finally got the English name of it), had some all right games. He's not that good though... =P

And then I went to buy another new pair of shoes for myself. I got this Couber G one... this is one of the things I planned to get too =P It only costed $299 HKD, that was really good... I think this pair originally costs $799 as it says on the back... it was on sale at $399 and I got $100 off.. =P I wanted to get shoes of this style for a while already.. I was planning on a Timberland one before but can't find an exact pair that I like the most with Timberland. I also looked at rockport and stuff.. and then finally decided on this one. The reason I wanted to get a cheaper one too is that I already got that gold one that is $580... if I get two that are both $500+ I would feel I'm spending too much on shoes =P Besides, this was one of the ones I liked the best even though it's so cheap. I also wanted to get one of those Birkenstock 人字拖 but spending $200 something on a pair of 拖 just seems not so worth it =P

Tonight I gotta start packing up to leave.... so sad =( Things I'm still thinking about to buy are a digicam, a legal version computer game, Wild Half full set and some more books... I don't know about digicam because I probably should've bought it at the beginning of the trip =/ not sure about now... and then books I'm not sure if I should get many because they are so heavy.. And then I still need to go to MK one more time these few days to pick up those pirate korean movies and another version of mac office that works... and *maybe* Visual Studio .NET...

Items bought: 2 movies, a pair of Couber G shoes and softwares: Borland C++ Builder, Chinese WinXP and Partition Magic.

Day 17 - 8/27

With time passing extremely fast... I'm getting near the end of my HK trip. After today though, I pretty much don't have any regrets in this trip =) Places to go, I've all gone to (mostly); things to buy, I've bought all (mostly); things to do, I've done all (mostly). No big regrets at least.

Today I had Spaghetti House lunch with Wong Ho Yin and Billy. It was all right. We then went back to La Salle Primary School and we finally found and talked to our 2 main teachers from elementary school, Ms Chung and Mrs Chan. Good to see them again... Both of them said the same thing -- I used to be really short and little, why I've become so tall now =P I'm not even that tall now... just average.. (well, taller than average in terms of HK standards; shorter than average in terms of US standards.. I guess that makes me average) But then again I used to be just about the shortest kid in class, so. And apparently many of our old teachers are also still there teaching even though we didn't see them today -- we thought many of them would've retired by now =P We took some pics too, but they are all on Wong Ho Yin's camera so I gotta wait till I get back to the US to get them.

We then went to TST to walk thru that Star Avenue.... we took some pics just like a tourist (actually mostly me, because I really AM a tourist =P).. we were going to go to the HK Science Museum afterward but it was 4 and we bumped into Wong Ho Yin's brother (with 2 girls.. damn pimp =) and he told us it closes at 5... so we didn't end up going. It's funny because when his brother saw me he totally didn't know who I am until his bro told him, and then he's like "WHOA"..... I guess I do look that much different =P Actually even Wong Ho Yin himself didn't quite recognize me when he first saw me that time. =P

So after a failing attempt to go to Science Museum (oh well.. guess I won't be going there in this trip then), we did the best thing I've done so far.... took the Star Ferry to HK Island across Victoria Harbor!!! This was probably the most HK thing I've done in this trip =P It was so so so cheap too... damn, $2.2HKD, that's like absolutely nothing. About a quarter US dollar for a ship ride!! I know it's short and all but it really does represent HK =P

We then took the bus to the Peak on HK Island... it's a pity I didn't take the cable car up and I didn't eat at those places up there.. I'll leave that as my goal for my next HK trip =P (so far my goals list contains living in the Peninsula Hotel, eating at the Peking Road restaurant building most expensive floors, eating at the restaurants at the Peak, buying one of those 3D models/pictures at the Peak mall to hang in my room, etc.) It was really foggy up there today though since it was also raining a bit... but it was still nice going up there since I literally haven't been there for ages. And you know what I realized.. all the places I went to today (TST port, Ferry, Peak, Art Museum cafe, etc.) are all perfect dating spots... I have to remember all of these places so I can come to all of these with my significant other in the future =) It'd be so nice so romantic =)

After the Peak Billy left and then its two of us left and we went to Timesquare (my first time here, the mall of the legend... it's actually not that much special after all =P) in Causeway Bay.. I almost bought something at the Watson's there but this old sales woman came and kept talking so I got annoyed and didn't buy anything lol =P Then we went to eat 車仔麵 (cart noodles?) at this place called 新記美食... recommended by Eason Chan =) Heh it's actually just all right.... not as good as Eason makes it sound like. Spicy fish balls were pretty good... pretty spicy. I saw this magazine cut from the wall at that place that talked about the top 10 most HK-representative food.... there's 車仔麵, 蝦餃, 孛仔糕, stinky tofu, egg tart, 雞蛋仔, wonton noodles, spicy fish balls, and a couple more I forgot.. Anyway, I made sure I tried all of these in this trip =P except for stinky tofu and 孛仔糕... I really can't stand the smell of stinky tofu so I can't help it. As for 孛仔糕 I dunno, it never appealed to me and I never got a chance to try it anyway..

We then went to Sogo to walk around a bit.... I saw the 2nd cutest girl I've seen in this trip in HK so far here =P She's also a sales here... I wonder why all the cute girls I've seen in HK now are sales =P Those shops sure hire good people.. Anyway though, more cute girls on HK Island than in Kowloon, that's for sure.. Wong Ho Yin was looking at Japanese books here (damn, he really can read Japanese really well now) and he was reading this book about time travelling theory that made me think a lot... but I'm not gonna talk about it here now =P And we saw one of the HK-proprietary things here -- lining up to get in the elevator. What other places in the world would you have to line up neatly in order to get in an elevator? HK is so great =P

After all that I went down to Causeway Bay Gold Star to have a look again and I found out that in HK arcades, night time is when the most people play!! It's a pity I just found out about this when I'm about to leave.. So there was this guy who was playing GGXX here who was pretty good... I played a couple games with him, 2 wins and 2 losses. He used Baiken at first but when he lost he switched to I-no immediately... which makes me think he was that supposed best player in HK.. since I heard the best guy in HK uses I-no (and not many others do) and plays at this arcade often.. but then again he's not really that good. I mean, with a skill level similar to me means he's probably not HK's best =/ But true that in my whole trip the only couple of people I had trouble beating was this kid (he looked really young, probably high school kid) who used Potemkin (but my stick was half broken that time... so it's hard to tell) and that other guy who used Anji.

So that was today... I pretty much did all of the things worthwhile to do in HK and went to all the places worth going after today. The only places I still wanted to go to now are Ocean Park and Science Museum.... both of which I haven't been to for 10 years, but as I hear they don't really change that much in years so I think I'm not missing out too much.. I wanted to plan an Ocean Park trip on Sunday but it seems like not many people are free =/ Oh well.

Stuff to buy still? The 10 pirate korean movies, another mac office, Visual Studio .NET, a backpack, digital camera, hin yuen sword 4, sango7, some books and Wild Half full set. Pretty much all of these are maybes.. except for the first 2.

Items bought: None.

Day 18 - 8/28

As I'm writing this I'm watching Liu Xiang of China getting gold for 110m Hurdles Men in the Olympics... so nice =)

I said since the beginning of the trip that I was going to spend one of the days in this trip to wander in a bookstore(s) to read and buy some books. Guess that's today. Went to Commercial Press in Jordan as well as TST. Also went to Swindon in TST and PageOne in Festival Walk. Bought a few books for myself and one that my bro asked. I shouldn't be too bored on the airplane ride now.. =) I saw the textbook for computer security at Jordan's bookstore but it's $450 HKD and it's not too far off from the US price ($75)... since it's so heavy I figure it's probably not worth it to buy it here even though I'm 90% sure I'm taking security =/ Other than that I didn't find any of my other textbooks.

Not much special today other than that.. Will be heading out soon to have a last meeting with Paggie and her friends about the web design jobs I'm taking.

And then it doesn't look like I'll be going to Ocean Park tomorrow... so much for that plan =/ So I guess it's the last MK shopping day tomorrow, maybe a movie (Twins Effect 2? Or Dumpling?), and then Monday hopefully I can plan out a trip to Science Museum.

Items bought: The pirate korean movies (father got 'em), 4 books for myself, 1 book for my bro.

Day 19 - 8/29

Probably my biggest regret day.. =P Oh well..

I woke up at like 10 to go down to get a few movies from Alex.. then re-slept and slept till 4pm =/ That was really bad because then I missed my chance to go to MK Computer Center, so.. so much for the game and digital camera that I was planning to buy =/ oh well. But that wasn't my regret..

I wanted to watch a movie (at least for once in HK) so I thought I'd call up Roger since it's weekend and I figure he's probably free.. so I met up with him at MK. We went to New Town mall, to that backpack store... he helped me create this perfect chance to ask the girl out, but I didn't do it =/ I really wanted to but I'm leaving HK tomorrow... I told myself I really shouldn't be dating here =/

So anyway we went to Festival Walk to watch Twins Effect II.. we also had KFC dinner (rice and stuff.. O_o). The movie was not that good, visual effects and Gillian make up for it though.... story was definitely not that good and Jaycee Chan is just ridiculous. Chan Pak Lam was also no good... it's sad to say, but even Edison Chen is a better actor than them, as he's improved lately and even in the few scenes in this one he performed better than the other two..

I came back home and I thought about going to TST tonight once more to see the night scenes there... but I'd feel really lonely =/ Also I'd have to Taxi back... so I gave up that thought. So now I'm here typing this and about to watch the closing of the Olympics on TV, instead.

Items bought: Visual Studio .NET, mac office. Got the office cheap too.. mac softwares was supposed to be $30 HKD each but they took it as $10 HKD each for me because I was buying it together with .NET and they didn't notice it's a mac office =P

Day 20 - 8/30

Finally, my last day in HK... so sad =( I thought about extending my airplane ticket to stay longer here... since I really miss it here now, I don't wanna go back =/ But nah it's ok... I have to go back to Davis on 31st and 1st anyway to move aptment.. great thanks to Kit and William for helping me move my furnitures while I'm not there, already..

Today I woke up at like 9am.... why? To go to the HK History Museum and the Science Museum.. finally satisfied this goal too =) It was not bad.... the History Museum showed a lot of stuff about HK... it was really nice... it even introduced HK movies from the 60s and 70s, as well as songs, they were really cool.. Then Science Museum... it was less fun than I anticipated, but still good =) Oh yeah I forgot to mention I was with Wong Ho Yin this whole day.. he's the only one free today =P Wilson still at orientation for HKU, Billy not free, Roger got work, Onyi got work, etc... Science Museum didn't exactly have THAT much new stuff, but there are still some.... of course, not amazing enough for not being there for 10 years too.. I don't think I missed out much =P Also those things were more fun when I was more little.... it's weird now because all those physics stuff and computer stuff I know exactly how they work now, and all those physics just shows up in my mind when I see those funky games, it really makes it not that fun =P

I felt really bad yesterday just leaving the backpack store after Roger 玩殘 that sales girl Riko like that... so I decided up there and say sorry to her today =P that's how I found out her name too.... so I guess that counts as I know her now =P only that I won't be in HK for a while from now =( oh well..

So now I'm at the airport.... going to get on the plane soon... so that's the end of my trip =)

Items bought: None.

Saturday,Aug 28 2004, 03:14:08 PMI didn't expect to get a chance to get...

I didn't expect to get a chance to get online to post my journal entries up tonight, so again this is not my most updated file in my USB drive... but it's got 2 new days from last time at least. when i post my next entry, it'll be when i'm back in the US, tho =) here we go:

Day 14 - 8/24

I totally forgot to write about this day until now (8/25) =/ I don't even remember what I did anymore =P

Not that much though.... basically just went to MK to shop for movies for my bro mostly. Got Visual Studio (5 cd's) too. At night I went to Uncle Alex's place for dinner and play with little Michael and Rachel.... the two of them are really really cute =) Especially little Rachel (cus she's younger?).. she's so so so cute =) She is like the cutest baby girl I've ever seen.. and she looks a lot like that baby picture of ah gill (Twins) I saw before.. so I think she'll be really pretty in the future too =)

And I once again confirmed that I'm natural born comedian actor material... for some reasons little Rachel always just laughs suddenly when she sees my face =P so many people do that... when even a baby does that, you know it's true =P Did I ever mention this here? People always think my face looks funny and want to laugh when they see me... it happens with close friends (e.g. Sharon that time in the lab), not so close friends (e.g. Jonathan, the guy that casted in my bro's movies.. he NG'ed several times during a dialogue with me because he wanted to laugh whenever he stared straight at my face =/ ) and everyone. =/

It was a nice dinner and all =) unfortunately I had a sore throat (2nd time =/ ) this whole day so I didn't feel that good... but it's okay.

Items bought: Bunch of movies (5 total I think... all legal versions. 3 Korean movies and 大事件 and 玉觀音), Visual Studio pirated

Day 15 - 8/25

Today I woke up and went to Sham Shui Po to pick up my HK ID card and walked around a bit. I went to Golden mall (both 黃金 and 高登) as well as New Golden mall for a bit too as well as West Kowloon mall... none of them interested me much... Golden now only got PS games basically and computer parts... for some reasons there isn't a single store with pc games =/ since I can't play those PS2 games from HK on my PS2 it's pointless to get any here. Besides I'm not really interested in any anyway =P The only thing that interested me after the whole trip was a $90 HKD PS joystick... but seeing as I don't really play cvs2/ggxx much at home anymore, and it takes up so much luggage space, I decided not to buy it...

Later on met up with Paggie to help her pick a laptop at MK.. We got this BenQ one that looks really nice and is really cheap (about the cheapest one there but specs not bad at all... and the look is the best also). We went to this tea restaurant called 花園 that looks really good but I didn't eat anything there since I had to go to dinner soon... man I have to try the food at that place myself later. Afterward I went to shop for some movies again for my bro, and played at the 新之城 arcade for a bit again, beat 2 guys and the comp for a while and left. I wanted to stop by that backpack shop again to see that girl but I don't want to seem like I'm going there so often =/

Met up with Kent for dinner. We went to this mall called Olympian City 奧海城 (HK malls have really funny names...), this italian restaurant called Stage Cafe... it was really good and really full..... it looks really good and tastes really good... if I get to date a girl in HK I gotta ask her to have dinner here =P The mall is all right... just like the typical big malls in HK.. I heard lots of TVB dramas shoot their scenes here though..

That was pretty much it for today.... this is my last few days in HK.. tomorrow I should be just going to shopping, Friday I should be going back to LSPS to visit again (didn't see Miss Chung last time), the weekend I don't have any plans yet.. and then on Monday I'm leaving.

P.S. wow.. I was just watching Olympics report on TVB and I just realized that Myolie Wu with that normal makeup (not drama-look) from a distance looks really really like Jenna O_o I never noticed that before...

Items bought: Bunch of movies again (4 total... Warriors of heaven and earth, The Eye 2, McDull 2 and one other China one)

Tuesday,Aug 24 2004, 11:08:07 AMlong time no online.. posting up whole bunch...

long time no online.. posting up whole bunch of days at once =) also I editted last entry to add back Day 7 that I missed before.. scroll down to read it if you want

Day 9 - 8/19

Today was kind of my heavy shopping day... I bought all the expensive stuff on my shopping list =P

So first of all I went to sing K with Wilson and Wong Ho Yin.. first time I went to sing K in HK so far =P We went to Neway in Mongkok.. it's cool since K places are so big in HK, comparing to the ones in US... and yet still so cheap. (the rooms and everything look really new and nice too... US ones not comparable) And then K lunch costs like $40 a person. That's about $5 USD which is about a lunch in US with no karaoke =/ I feel so cheated going to sing K in the US now =/ oh well lol. We just sang the ordinary songs (well some special ones... =P), nothing really much special.

After that the two of them walked around with me to help me pick a new pair of shoes to buy (about time, since I've been wearing this one for over 5 years). I was deciding among 3 pairs that I liked... there's this one with jeans top and light green shoe laces and sides that I really like.. but it's Nike so it's like $500 and there are similar jeans ones that are Converse for like $200 even though they don't look as good, and also jeans top probably means it's not gonna be wearable during rainy days =/ So I gave up that one... then it's between either a gold Nike one with 高筒 (not sure the English term), and a blue/white with cloud-like patterns.. both are really good. I finally decided on the gold one because I wanted one with 高筒 and the blue one isn't.... besides, the gold one is good to match with a lot of my pants, such as the brown jeans... as well as my shorts. For my dark blue pants and brown shorts it might not be super good but should still be ok, so this should be a good pick for me..

Then Wilson's girlfriend called so he had to go, and then Wong Ho Yin and I walked around to shop the rest of my stuff. He also had to get this soccer jersey (although he ended up not finding the store at all =/ ). We went to 女人街 to get those cheap ghetto metallic belts... the reason I'm getting those cheap ones is because my purpose of using them =P I'm not really going to use them as real belts... some of you (Brian, etc.) will know what I'm using it for.. =P Yeah I'm just going to be hanging them on the sides as decoration, and/or as imitating Squall in FF8 =P

After that we went to 新之城 mall in MK. The original purpose of going up there was to buy a real regular belt (that I actually use as a belt). I forgot where I saw one I liked last time (apparently not here in this mall =/), but anyway I ended up getting a bag here instead. I've been looking for a single-shoulder strap bag that can hold my laptop and looks good, and would match anything from casual wear to suits. I basically found the perfect one here at this shop called Backpack =P In addition to that the sales girl at the shop was really cute so I decided to buy the bag there immediately =P I feel like going back to that store to see her again hehe..

At night Roger and I went clubbing.. I think I caught a cold from here =/ along with the lack of sleep these 2 days.. The girls there.. ehh.. just ok.. not really any particularly good.

Items bought: Nike gold shoes (it really looks better than it sounds =P) $580 HKD, Zolo single-shoulder laptop bag $270 HKD, 2 "metallic" belts ($65 HKD total)

Day 10 - 8/20

Woke up with a sore throat, probably got it from last night... felt pretty crappy until now.. better now but still not that good.

Went to MK to buy some of the stuff from my shopping list.... went to 星際 to get my pirated games but the cops closed down the shops (and they didn't re-open today) so I'm thinking my $100 HKD is 凍過水 =( Today is just a bad luck day for me... I guess it's a good thing I decided to not do much today.

And then I didn't get another belt as I planned... I think that 布 kind isn't really what I want =/ I'll just pick up another pure black one with a silver middle plate instead.. will do that tomorrow maybe?

Anyway yeah, not much today.. bad day =(

Items bought: Hacken Lee - Custom Made 2nd ver., $100 HKD supposedly used for some games but probably gone now =/

Day 11 - 8/21 (Saturday)

A much better day than yesterday =) I guess the only bad luck thing was that the ONE day that I decided not to bring my umbrella out is the day that it rained like HELL. Geez... I've never seen it rain this heavily ever since I came back. I just couldn't move at all at the MTR station so I was forced to buy one of those umbrellas from the street when it rains. Costed me $25 HKD but it's probably a good thing because I managed to use up all of my coins in my pocket because of it =P I was always thinking about how I should use them all quickly since it's getting heavier and heavier in my pocket.. I must have looked pretty funny because people must've seen me standing there at the MTR exit for 10 minutes before I finally decided to buy an umbrella from right next to the exit.

So I woke up and went to MK as an attempt to get my pirate games from 星際 (I just found out the English name of this mall is "Sim City"... O_o)... turns out even though some of them got arrested and their stuff got taken by the cops, they agreed to let me re-pick my games... so I picked them again, I'm pretty sure I missed something and got something else instead since I ordered quite a few games and I forgot what I picked yesterday. But anyway, the most important ones I want are Doom3, Sims2 and Sango10... so as long as I got those it's cool. And then I tried to exchange for a working mac office crack too, although after exchanging it still had the same problem (as I just tested it before writing this), I think it's the problem with the original file they got.. oh well.

They wanted me to wait 30 mins so I went to Causeway Bay first to meet up with Mable.. and then she brought me to this most classy K place in HK.. Before that, we went to have wonton noodles at this place called 新釗記 in CB first. It's got some really good wonton noodles.. makes me wonder why NO restaurants in the US can make wonton noodles like this. It's not that hard is it? And it's just $20 HKD for a bowl (which is expensive already in HK standards), comparing to crappy US ones that charge you like $5 USD ($40 HKD) (Old Tea House, really crappy noodles - DON'T try it if you haven't) or even like $8 USD ($60 HKD) (Daimo, better noodles but ungodly expensive!!)... So this Neway K place we went to in Causeway Bay... wow... it's like a hotel. So big and so classy.... the whole setup is basically just like a hotel. And then each room has its own bathroom and all.. wireless mic... damn. I wish those crappy K places in SF would learn something..

So after that I went back to MK to pick up the cd's... I got most of my stuff fine except they got 1 of the games wrong again.. they gave me an H-game instead =/ So to exchange it back for the correct one I had to wait another 30 mins. Man =/ Anyway, at the end I got all my stuff fine. Only later that I tested my mac office again and it still didn't work. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to buy another one some time. During waiting time I also got another belt from woman street. I guess it's a good thing it rained today so the cops didn't bother to clear the pirate floor. So after today I should have most of the stuff on my shopping list bought.. Now it's just to buy the movies that my bro asked me to.

So anyway after that I went to aunt Amy's place to have a big dinner with all the relatives. After that a few of us played Mah Jong.... that was ok. Playing for money is too tough for a MJ scrub like me =/ Oh well.

Items bought: 1 belt from woman street ($45 HKD from woman street... damn), a whole bunch of PC games (Doom3, Sims2, Sango10, 三國志英雄傳, 三國志孔明傳, 倚天屠龍記 "heavenly sword and dragon slayer" or whatever english name it is, 老夫子大富翁 old master Q monopoly or whatever english name it has too..)

Day 12 - 8/12 (Sunday)

As of right now I'm watching Women Volleyball and Women Marathon on TV... I actually don't quite want to write about today, but I don't want to break the streak =/

So actually went to a lot of places today... Woke up and went to have lunch myself at a tea restaurant down from my place.. met up with Onyi and her friend and brother Maggie and Wing at Causeway Bay for sing K again. Went to Greenbox.. comparing to Neway Greenbox's rooms are way too small =/ just like the US ones... More of Onyi's friends came by later, first this guy named Ray or whatever and later on this girl named Wing (again) and her boyfriend Tino (sp?).

We spent a lot of time deciding for everything every time... so first we went back to TST to Onyi's room and then went back down to YMCA badminton court for some badminton, basketball and soft volleyball (?).. can't believe I went to play sports even in HK =| And then we went to dinner.. after deciding between a whole bunch of stuff like hotpot, korean BBQ, etc. we finally decided on 味千拉麵 =( damn... oh well. After dinner we went to play pool.... we first played British pool, which was weird, I just don't get that game =/ and then we played US pool.

That pretty much concludes the day... I didn't feel that good today for various reasons.

Items bought: None.

Day 13 - 8/23

Woke up really late today at like 1pm... I didn't even wake up when Paggie called me at 12 something... at all =/ I can't believe I missed my entire ring tone while asleep, even though the phone was like right next to me. It was on loudest too =/

I finally went to 東東雲吞麵 at Lok Fu today. This was one of the things I wanted to try the most in HK =P I remember it used to be really really good back when I was little.... gladly, it's still really really good now that I try it again =) I find it really amazing how the only times I don't bring my umbrella are the times it rains heavily. So feeling spiteful I decided to go back home specifically to pick up my umbrella before I head out again. So I did that, and then as expected, the rain stopped (and didn't rain again for the rest of the day too). Yeah well.. if I went back home again to put down my umbrella it'd probably rain again.

Then I went to MK to walk around a bit.. was gonna buy some pc softwares I needed but seeing as I only had half an hour left I decided not to, because I'd usually have to wait longer than that.. but I found which pirate shops have the softwares I need.. so I'll go back there tomorrow to get them. So I just played a few games of GGXX at the arcade underground of 新之城 mall. (I decide to play there from now on rather than CyberCity, when in MK... it only takes $2 there instead of $3 at CyberCity, and the sticks and coin slots work better there. CyberCity always eats at least $1 every time I play. And I can't do a hcb+f to save my life on one of the sticks at CyberCity =/ ) I picked Faust first game and had a win streak against these 2 guys who are actually not bad... I think on the 5th game or so I finally lost, about time I had to go too.

Met up with Paggie and June and Uncle Alex for MJ before our dinner... won $0.8HKD total from MJ =P then we had a big relatives dinner (again =P outside this time). We took lots of pics =) maybe I'll get to post some here some time later.. After that I came back home to pick up my laptop and headed outside to talk business stuff with Paggie and her friends. We were at this ghetto (as in very HK 地道 [underground?] style, but classy) cafe place in Yau Ma Tei... it was a really nice place actually, I'd like to come here (particularly with a girl, if possible.. =P) to sit and have a drink again.. hopefully I still remember where it is and hopefully it's not some members-only place or something..

Then we went back to Paggie's place to try to get online, but failed.. so we talked more about the web sites' designs and then we each headed home. Which was then 3am. (4am right now after I showered and everything)

Wednesday,Aug 18 2004, 11:55:21 AMcrap, I didn't expect to have a chance to...

crap, I didn't expect to have a chance to come online today so I didn't save my Day 7 journal entry on my USB drive, so I can't post it even though I wrote it... it was really long too =/ I'll post it next time I get to come online. for now lemme just write Day 8...

Day 7 - 8/17

Slept well over 10 hours last night.. should be the most since I came back. Weird that I felt pretty tired after getting up though. =/ Woke up at 11 something and just kinda lay around, ate lunch, until I finally decided to go out at 2 to Causeway Bay (the first time in this trip). Didn't do much there though because I had to go back to Hung Hom to have dinner with relatives soon later. I found where Causeway Bay Gold Star is (that's the arcade where the best street fighter players hang out at in HK) and played there for like an hour or two or so. Had some really good games with some guy in GGXX. He said I'm pretty good and asked me do I come here often... I guess he's surprised that a non-regular just suddenly shows up and actually knows how to play =P (for those not in the know, usually at an arcade the only people who can put up a good fight with the regulars are the other regulars. when you see someone unusual you pretty much automatically assume they are scrubs/newbies, and 90% of the time it's true) Then played some CvS2 (one of the few arcades in HK that has it).. I think I played the same guy again but I'm not sure. (you know arcades in HK have "opposite sides" versus games, so you can't really see your opponents) It was some pretty good games too, since he used like Dhalsim, Kyosuke and Chang so that was something new, unlike all the CBS players in the US. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that the CvS2 machines in HK are on speed 5, so combos and priorities aren't as important as personal reaction and as such, weaker characters can easily put up a good fight too.

After that I went back to Hung Hom at my aunt's place to get online for a bit, did all my daily routines online (which now became like weekly routine), posted my journals and everything. Soon afterward we went out to dinner with relatives, at some local restaurant. Had some of those expensive Chinese stuff for dinner... lobster, etc. I finally tried out all those stuff that I used to avoid (like 乳鴿, some fish I forgot the name of, etc.). Because when I was little I usually avoid eating those stuff at big dinners out with relatives, as they look pretty nasty =P And yes, I consider myself 6 years ago to be "when I was little." Yeah don't laugh.. I never ate a lot of kinds of food when I was little. =P

These days after I came back to Hong Kong I get described by words that I've never heard people use to refer to me before.... probably because the standards in HK are different and that people haven't seen me in too long..... e.g.
"Hey he's so 高大 (tall big) but still just 120 lbs..." - Roger, talking to his girlfriend, referring to me (and no, it wasn't sarcastic because both he and his g/f are quite short =P)
"You're not thin, you look ok" - Paggie
"You're quite ging (strong), do you come here often?" (referring to my GGXX gameplay) - arcade guy
"You are a 飛仔 ah..." (kinda means gangster but not as serious) - Onyi (referring to my bleached hair)
"Mister, this way please" - restaurant waiter (Ok look, at the time I left HK, I was still a kid who's 4 ft something tall, and I would be referred to as a "kid" [in Chinese], so being referred to as "Mister" in Chinese is new to me)

All right so plans for the next few days... Wed: 游船河 (boat cruise? not sure the English translation) with Paggie & her friends, Thurs: sing K with Wilson and his friends for daytime then 'po' dancing clubs with Roger at night, Fri: none yet, Sat: sing K with Mable and dinner at a relative's place (going to finally see Larry and June, maybe Eve and Janis too?), Sun: none yet.

Items bought: None.

Day 8 - 8/18

游船河 today =) Got up at like 7:30am and met up with Paggie at 8:30. We had 茶餐廳 breakfast (公仔麵 and omelette, niice), then met up with her friends (actually just 1 of them is her friend, the other ppl we don't know). Soon later we went onto the ship and it sailed out. We were heading to this beach which I forgot the name of... anyway.

Stayed on the front of the ship the whole time so I didn't get ship sick (boat sick? I don't know the word). (yeah, but now at night I feel like I'm on a ship still =/ ) after we arrived I swam a little bit in the sea (salty... O_o), then I got back to the ship and we played deuces for jumping the plank.... since they are all cops and are all 30+ year old (Paggie is close too), they had to jump from the top of the ship into the water =/ and since I'm 20 they cut me some slack and allow me to jump from 1 lower deck, much better =P I broke the fastest record to jump.. so like you have to jump when you lose 3 games (i.e. you are the one with the most cards left), and it counts as 2 when you have 10+ cards. I basically got 4 pts in 2 games so I had to jump after 2 games =/

So anyway after that we all went back to the water again and we played beach volleyball (number ball mostly), and then losers had to walk around in circles 10 times then walk to the sea.... needless to say I lost again (at least not the first one to lose, since the girls are *really* bad at that game =P) and had to be punished =/ then we played some water volleyball... during the time I tried rowing and everything.... it was actually a lotta fun even though I didn't really know anyone there other than Paggie.

After all of that I'm at (maternal) grandma's place to eat dinner. That's why I get to come online now and post this.

Items bought: Obviously none.

Tuesday,Aug 17 2004, 08:42:30 AMgoing to dinner with relatives in a bit,...

going to dinner with relatives in a bit, came to aunt's place a little bit early, to get online again =)

Day 5 - 8/15 (Sunday)

I found that I just keep drinking lemon tea and pearl milk tea ever since I came back to HK =P like every meal out I'd get lemon tea for drink, and then every time I go out to have drinks I'd get pearl milk tea.. Not sure why =/

So yeah, kinda got a lot planned today! First in the morning I went to 飲茶 with all the relatives at 12. Well not all, but a good part of them =P It was nice to see them all again. Last time was 6 years ago... So that was a lot of conversations and everything. We took some pics so maybe I'll post them on my zorpia some time if I get a chance.. Then after drink tea I went to aunt Mable's place and got a chance finally to get online, after days. Chatted with people online, checked some e-mails, didn't check forums or comics, posted up the journals above, and a bunch of random stuff that I do online. AIM Express sucks and I kept getting disconnected =/ but it's ok, I had to go soon anyway.

Left around 3:30 because I'm meeting up with Onyi at 4pm at Kowloon Tong (又一城 again). Had a drink with her there, and we walked around a little bit. We also went to MK afterward to walk around and also played some games at CyberCity. I lost two games at GGXX pretty badly =( Yeah well, whenever someone (that I know) is watching me, I always lose =( And played some random other games as well like Hokuto No Ken and that Ping Pong game.. after arcade time Onyi had to leave so I went home too. And oh yeah.. I still can't believe Onyi and I used to live in the same apartment complex (根德閣 Kent Court) when we were little.... O_o we even lived on the same floor, though a different building in the complex I think (not sure).... you know how low that probability is? Seeing how many places there are in HK and that my place was next to my elementary school back then and even then I didn't know anyone in my school who lived in my complex. This means I've probably seen her many times back when I was little =O

I came home and then picked up my new glasses... then dinner. Tomorrow I should have a ton of stuff planned again, should be pretty nice. =)

Items bought: None.

Day 6 - 8/16

A really cool day =) Met up with Wilson and Wong Ho Yin (not the star, but same name same words =P) today... really haven't seen them in 6 years!! These two were my two best friends back in elementary school days haha.. Billy also came today too. Had a realllllly long lunch with them because we kept talking about stuff from the past. We were at this peking food place I think.. At some point around 3 the guy at the restaurant gave us the bill even though we didn't call for it because we sat there for too long. =P You know I just remembered that I forgot to take pics with them today =/ I always bring out my camera but forget to take pics.. After that we walked around MK a lot, stopped by arcades again, etc. the usual stuff to do in MK. GGXX was fun today because there was lots of both wins and losses, that were good games. They didn't wanna go sing K because apparently to them $70 HKD is too expensive =/ it's like ultra cheap for me..

At night I met up with Roger (and his girlfriend) for dinner. We went to Kowloon City (first time since coming back) for 打邊爐 (hotpot)!! It costed $100 HKD (each person, just 3 of us) but it was really nice. (in fact ~$13 USD for a meal isn't bad at all in terms of US food price) Must be the most I've eaten in one meal so far in HK... both in terms of price and in terms of food amount. After that we went to have sweet water. After that we went to 又一城 again (I just found out today the English name for that mall is something like Festival Walk) to walk around a bit even though most stores are already closed by then.

The next few days seem to be packed with plans as well. I now realize that I probably should've bought more stuff the past few days when I was free because I don't think I'll be too free the next few days, lol.

Items bought: A Doraemon book, Old Master Q, another Fujiko F Fujio comic
