Saturday,Sep 25 2004, 07:52:57 AMWith that last entry and all the recent...

With that last entry and all the recent disaster (tornadoes and hurricanes around Florida and all) happening.... and a possible asteroid (Toutatis) striking Earth and giving us doom.... I can't help but relate the two topics. Now... when you have a virus in your body, let's say a serious one (for our comparison's purpose). A cancer. There are only two possible outcomes. One is you find a way to cure it. The virus dies, your body lives. Another is that the viruses successfully stop your body from operating by draining its resources. Your body dies... which leads to, of course, the majority of the virus population on your body to die, except for the lucky few who happened to be able to go off somewhere else before this happens. Now... when you have humans on Earth, which is a serious virus. There are only two possible outcomes. One is the Earth finds a way to cure it. The humans die, the Earth lives. Another is that the humans successfully stop the Earth from operating by draining its resources. The Earth dies... which leads to, of course, the majority of the human population on Earth to die, except for the lucky few who happened to be able to go off to another planet or something before this happens. Are all these disasters, including the incoming asteroid a few days later, Earth's way of "curing" itself? If you look at it this way... the whole universe is a system of living beings that are, planets. Earth, being one, is currently infected by "humans" and is at a dangerous condition. His internal body system tries to cure himself using different cells such as tornadoes, hurricanes, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc. to no avail because these viruses are just growing stronger and stronger day by day and know how to resist these. Other people, ahem, planets, see this situation and attempt to help the poor guy out. External help such as an asteroid will inevitably come and that is the day when Earth can finally cure............. Have you realized? It is not the first time Earth and his fellow planets have done this. When Earth's first serious disease came around.... the dinosaurs, it got out of hand and dinosaurs conquered the Earth, killing plants... another of Earth's fellow asteroid came around and helped him exterminate those dinosaurs viruses.

i read something on some forum. interesting. what do you think?

"I'd like to share a revelation here. It came to me when I tried to classify our species. I realized that we're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but us humans do not. We move to an area and multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way we can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. We are a plague, and death is the only cure."

(sorry my "response to Quad" entry got bumped down to the 2nd one so quickly -- got something else to post here)

I find out that I miss HK a lot. Ok, that's not new. But I also find out that I'm not the only one who thinks so... apparently 20~30 years ago, Sam Hui and Michael Hui already think that, of all the places in the world, HK is still the best place to be (which I whole-heartedly agree; at least because I grew up there). And thus, they wrote this song, which I never noticed was about Hong Kong, until tonight when I just read the lyrics carefully:

鐵塔凌雲 望不見歡欣人面
富士聳峙 聽不見遊人歡笑
自由神像 在遠方迷霧
山長水遠 未入其懷抱
檀島灘岸 點點粼光
豈能及漁燈在彼邦

It's so subtly (a word? or subtlely?) great. I never noticed its meaning because the song title simply took the first 4 words in the lyrics, which in itself had nothing to do with HK.. and to made this even better, the song ended with this:

俯首低問 何時何方何模樣
回音輕傳 此時此處此模樣
何須多見復多求 且唱一曲歸途上

The nice thing about the song is that it's not saying how good HK is (the word "HK" doesn't even appear in the song); but it's saying how it's 'home' to those of us who grew up there, and it is and should be the best place for us to be in. (i.e. "don't be dissing HK, you HK ppl")

ALL these years I thought this song was about travelling, as it talks about all those different places in the world at the beginning.. and because of the soothing tune, I always thought it said something about how those other places in the world were really great as they soothe your mind. Just read the first 2 lines -- the whole time I thought they carried positive feelings about Paris and Tokyo because of the way the sentence sounds (that is, how comfortable and soothing the two places are) -- but it's actually the exact opposite. (if you didn't get what I meant, read into those first 2 lines more)
