note: I'm not a bio major nor have I taken ANY bio class since high school freshman bio, so don't kill me if I get this wrong.
last night, for the first time in a LONG time, and yes I mean REALLY long time... I've had a good night of sleep. I actually slept for 7 hours or so before automatically waking up.
for those of you who didn't know, I've always been a bad sleeper (I wish that applied when I'm in class tho. I'm a really good sleeper during lectures). I take about an hour to fall asleep on average at night, even when I'm tired. The recent few weeks, ever since school started, I've been taking about 3 hrs every night to fall asleep. But that's beside the point.
the point is, for the past maybe 3 months, I haven't had a single good night of sleep where I don't wake up automatically in 3 hrs, and then wake up every hour when I try to go back to sleep.
I have this strange habit of always observing my own biological body behaviors and making conclusions/theories about how my body works; of course with what I already know from reading books and classes.
I came up with this conclusion that I wasn't able to do this because of my eye. For you bio/psych people you know that there is such thing as REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep mode and non-REM sleep mode. A person enters REM sleep mode only in deep sleep - a couple hours after falling asleep. Because of the inflammatory I had in my eye before the surgery, the swollen bit puts pressure on my eye and as such, my subconsciousness prevents my eye to move while I'm asleep (naturally, to avoid damage). And so, I couldn't enter REM sleep mode (because obviously, the eyes need to be moving during REM sleep mode). So for 3 months, I only slept in non-REM sleep mode at nights. After getting my surgery done, I was able to sleep for 7 hours straight without waking up. Is that just a really good coincidence or is my theory correct?
now, here's the weird thing. I've always read that in REM sleep mode, you dream. in non-REM sleep mode, you don't dream. what's weird is that in my observation, I only dream in non-REM sleep mode. The exact opposite. So yes, for the last 3 months, I could remember my dreams clearly every morning when I wake up. Last night when I had my good sleep, I couldn't remember anything. So what's the deal?

my friends make me feel so warm these days.. hehe
so nice of brian and jay to go there with me and stay with me the whole time.. brian even brought his car while i was inside so that i could get back to class in time for quiz (although i still missed it anyway, but i retook it at office hour so its fine), so considerate!! and jay too woke up early in the morning specifically to go with me, he didnt even have morning class before that actually. they both heard me scream inside the surgery room.. how embarassing -_- but hey, it was really painful =/ also i appreciate kevin and sharon and emily too for at least telling me they want to go but couldnt cus of classes. oh and i totally forgot to mention... josh is a really great friend too, for praying for me =)

this quarter ive been experiencing a lot of situations where i had to weigh things.... where the results usually turn out that theres something else i need to do thats more important than my academic progress too. its actually a new feeling to me since for the past 3 years in college (if not the past 20 years as a student too) classes stuff has always been #1 priority for me.
in other news, surgery went well today and supposedly my eye should be returning to normal after a week of use of some ointment and taking antibiotics... should be good.. if any of you are interested in how scary the experience was you can ask me..
