Wednesday,May 24 2006, 12:34:12 PM ~#~ A "teenage" Wedding Anniversary ~#~
We first met at a Young Vegetarian Movement's social in London (UK) way back in 1968, and we gradually got to know each other. In 1970 I organised a sponsored 30 mile walk around London (two circuits of 15 miles). Dilys was one of the 112 walkers who helped raise over £1000 for Vegfam. Vegfam helps people grow their own crops and with clean water systems etc in the third world. During the last 10 miles or so I found a weary Dilys and by my holding her hand she managed to complete the whole 30 miles!. We started getting to know each other more. BUT Then I went on a Vegetarian holiday in Brittany (North West France) in 1970 and met Christine. We were married in July 1971. Dilys was one of our guests. In 1973 Dilys met and married (in 1974) John (who became David) and we and Tim were amongst the guests. We both had Quaker Weddings BTW.
My marriage broke up in the early 1980's. A few years later (1987) Dilys announced in a Christmas card that Dave had left her. We started writing to each other, and we both went to the Kent Vegan Camp in 1989. I moved to Scarborough, where Dilys lived with her two boys, to live in my own house. Then we got to know each other more deeply for two years, and married on May 24th 1992, again in a Quaker Meeting in Scarborough.
BUT we ALMOST met a great deal earlier! We were both born in a Vegetarian Nursing Home in South London, me in 1939, and Dilys in 1947! YES an 8 year gap! BUT my Sister, Bronwen, was also born at the same nursing home, and only a few weeks before Dilys. So when I went to visit mum & Bronwen I nearly met Dilys' mum!

"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending
spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of
diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder a liar,
but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through
violence you may murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In
fact, violence merely increases hate. So it goes. Returning
violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a
night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out hate: only
light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: Only LOVE can do that."
Martin Luther King.
