Sunday,Mar 11 2007, 05:10:25 PM~#~ Helios my latest poem ~#~

Last night I went to a classical Music concert by the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra. (In which Dilys' son, Jonathan, plays the cello)
The first piece was  the Helios Overture by Carl Nielsen of Denmark.
I had never heard this  music before, but it gave me  the urgeto write a  poem.

Helios is  THE  SUN.

HELIOS

Dark
Quiet
Starlight
Twilight
Bird softly sings
Night’s end begins

Eastern horizon is glowing,
Below the sea it is coming.
Some more singing by a bird
And soon some more are heard.
The eastern sky lightens,
The songs of birds heightens,
The whispers of many a cloud
And songs become quite loud.
Little breezes stir up leaves,
Spiders here & there weaves
Such deadly chimeric beauty,
For flies to become its booty.

Suddenly a red ray bright
Gives out more light.
Pale greens & blues
Of differing hues,
Straddle the sky above.
The sounds of a cooing dove
Now join the dawn chorus,
As clouds become more aurous.
Dogs bark, crowing from a cock
And seabirds flying in a flock
Their raucous laughter wakes us up
And soon the rattling of a cup.

The rising shrouded disc so bright & red
Soon shows us its welcoming head.
The sky lightens around this glow,
Even though it is still quite low.
Like a chameleon of many shades
Their beauty is one that soon fades.
And as the sun rises up into the sky
Far too bright for our naked eye,
The day at last has begun
And we welcome the glorious sun.

thank you. It was that symphony of course that inspired the poem. Listening to it that evebing just made me want to write it.
I have recorded it on video too, with some of the music!

Gorgeous writing as always! It's interesting that words describing the natural rising of the sun so easily give way to an iambic metre in couplets, such a poem couldn't be written any other way, it seems to just flow so well don't you think?

Fabulous stuff Chris, always a delight to read =)
