The monthly news letter that I produce for the Scarborough Philatelic Society won the Literature prize this year on Saturday June 17th,  at the annual convention, held at the Hull University.    I entered a three year run of the newsletter (36 consecutive issues) on behalf of the society.  The Society gets to keep the trophy for a year.

I personally (again on behalf of the Society) was awarded two Silver certificates for two of my entries in various competitions. The full list of awards to our society is in the picture.

Monday,Jun 19 2006, 08:22:29 PM~#~ When We Are Married"

All last week was the Play “When We Are Married”. (A hilarious family type comedy), by JB Priestley It was first written & performed in1938, But was set in 1908. The story is about three couples who were married 25 years early, all on the same day in the same church by the same priest. In the play they are all having a celebration party when they discover that the priest who married them was not authorised to do so. The three men are all important people in the church and town, and can’t afford to be made a laughing stock! Of course the town gossip found out! As did others! The twists and turns of how the three couples, all VERY different to each other is what provides the comedy. I was playing the part of a “henpecked” husband. The “freedom” gained allowed my character to take a turn for the better, and a slap by my “wife” is returned to her by myself and delivers a great shock to her and the audience’s delight! So much so that they CLAPPED my action! In spite of the face slapping we actors are in fact very good friends! This was probably one of the best ever productions that I have been involved in, the audiences were really lapping it all up. We have been given very high praise, some very experienced theatre goers even described this production as the best that they had seen, and some have seen this play done many times, both by amateurs and professionals. I have included some photos of rehearsals in Zorpia photo pages & my Webshots pages. As well as the Phoenix Drama Yahoo Group. Sadly we only put on the play 4 nights, after many many rehearsals since January this year. Our producer is an experienced actress in our Drama Society, but has never produced (Directed) a play before. She (Margaret Braidford) did a WONDERFUL job! I have now returned to my REAL wife! (Who herself really enjoyed our production) I was proud to have been a part of this team *SMILES* Chris

Saturday,Jun 10 2006, 06:30:19 AMWhy I have not been so active in Zorpia recently!

Sorry I have not been able to respond to or initiate much in the way of posts in groups or forums etc these last few weeks.
There have been various reasons for this.   But no need to worry, I am quite well, just very busy.
I am an officer of two clubs in Scarborough.
  1) Honorary Secretary  in the Scarborough Philatelic Society, also I am editor of their monthly newsletter. We have meetings every 1st Tuesday of the month.  In May it was the AGM, that always takes up a lot of time organising, cups & awards need engraving, getting reports from the officers etc. Then next month is a big auction and I had to get the lists out for the June meeting, so people can see what is going to be offered for sale, and copies have to be circulated to other local societies as well.
2) Treasurer of the Phoenix Drama club.  I am also the production editor of the play programme (24 A5 pages, 10 pages are adverts!) and I am in it this year as well!   We are doing the WONDERFUL comedy  "When We Are Married"  by J B Priestly (Look it up on the net Google, if you are interested) all next week.  I am Herbert Soppitt! All day tomorrow we are erecting the stage set, two more rehearsals Monday & Tuesday ON THE Stage (for the first time) then the four nights for the public.  I have also been getting press publicity etc!
3)  Before that we were heavily involved in a local Borough council bye-election, in which we (the Green Party) WON the first ever seat on the Scarborough council.  Beating all the three main parties.  It was a very good friend of ours who won.  Next year we hope that Dilys (my wife) will be elected along side of him, when the full (4 year term)  council is elected, our ward has 2 seats.   Scarborough has lagged behind most other councils in the country as far as Green issues have been concerned, just getting ONE  seat makes the others all sit up and act!  They all suddenly become More Green!
4)  Gardening!  There is always so much to do...... Well there is if we want a productive one  LOL. We love eating our own fruit And veg!
5) Preparing for my Round the World trip starting in September.  I have booked the flights (Canada, USA, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Singapore, & India)  I leave near the end of Sept, and get back at the end of January.   I will be meeting up with many (not all sadly) of my internet friends, and getting the chance to see places that I have always wanted to see.   Basically I will be travelling by air over the oceans, and in Canada, USA, New Zealand & Australia by train!
6)I am also editor of the month Scarborough Friends Meeting (Quakers) Newsletter (4 to 8 A5 pages)
7) Other things as well!  but those are the main ones!  LOL
So I hope this explains why I have not been so active recently   *SMILES*
