Making a Death Wish?
We all come to a point when we have enough and we face so many difficulties in our lives, which makes us hate life. And we turn to Allah, we implore him to take our lives at the earliest, because we don’t see any solutions to our problems except death; thinking it’s the only thing that can save you from all this unbearable life? But have you ever asked yourself if this behaviour is forbidden?
Have you ever said all this to yourselves??? Ok, let me answer this, I personally did, but I learnt that as a Muslim you are to encounter day to day problems, with patients and hope for Allah’s reward in the hereafter. The Glorious Quaran says “And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast (Sabrin), who say, when a misfortune strike them: Lo! We are Allah's and Lo! Unto Him we are returning. Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided.” (Al-Baqarah: 155-157)
Ok let’s focus more on the main question. This was (Making a death wish)
When a person makes a death wish because of something that has afflicted him, he is doing something strictly prohibited by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "None of you should hope for death because of some harm that has come to him. If he has such a wish, he should say, 'O Allah, keep me living if you know that life is better for me. And take my life if you know that death is better for me."' (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Therefore, it is not allowed for anyone to wish death because of some harm, hardship or difficulty that has overwhelmed him. In fact, he should have patience and expect a reward from Allah for what he is passing through. He should also wait for relief to come, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Know that victory comes with patience, relief with distress and ease with hardship.” (Reported by Ahmad)
Anyone suffering from any affliction should know that whatever afflicts him expiates some of the sins he has committed. No believer is afflicted with any kind of worry, grief or pain except that Allah expiates sins for him, even because of the pricking of a thorn. With patience and seeking rewards from Allah, a person reaches the stage of being among the patient whom the Qur’an give glad tidings. Allah says, “And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast (Sabrin), who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and Lo! unto Him we are returning.” (Al-Baqarah: 155-156)
We feel that there are no solutions for our problems except death? Right? This is a mistaken view. Death does not solve any problems. In fact, the situation of adversity may get even worse. How many humans die while being afflicted with pain and problems but they had been wronging themselves and did not give up their sins and repent to Allah. To them death hastened their punishment. If a person remains alive, perhaps Allah would guide him to repentance, seeking forgiveness, patience, facing the problem and expecting relief. This all would have been good for them.
Therefore, you must be patient and expect relief from Allah. Allah says, "So, verily, with the hardship there is relief. Verily, with the hardship, there is relief." (Ash-Sharh: 5-6)”
