Ever heard of the reason why is the traffic so heavy during Wednesdays, “Baclaran Day po kasi” the driver would reply. Heavy churchgoers are the common reason for slow traffic going in and out of Baclaran.
I tried visiting Baclaran on a Monday and I was surprise with the fast movements of vehicle along its way and the absence of heavy churchgoers. Try going to Baclaran on Wednesday and expect a disaster.
My late mom used to bring me to Baclaran since I was in grade school. I just realize when I got older that it’s quite a long trip because we live in Sta.Mesa and ride the LRT from Avenida to Baclaran. I remembered the old school LRT before they use tokens instead of the electronic card today and the train doesn’t have an air conditioning system.
In Baclaran my mom used to buy me my shirts, toys (action figure of G.I. Joe and He-Man) and my hobby before-a hamster pet, were it bite me and got a memorable scar small on my right hand.
Today I still go to the Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Baclaran not just to shop for clothes but also for spiritual refreshment. Even the rich and famous visit the shrine at Tuesday midnight for their devotion to avoid the crowd that will of course destruct their time of prayer and devotion.
Baclaran is also known or its fashion trends of bootleg popular brands. But the joke is, once a fashion is found in Baclaran it time to switch into another fashion trend. Baclaran stalls are full or designer bags, clothes and everything you can imagine with regards to fashion in a very cheap price, you know what the catch is.
When going to Baclaran, don’t dressed up to show off or else you’ll be a magnet to pickpockets and hold up men. Baclaran comes alive during Wednesday, Thursday and on weekends. Like Divisoria in Manila there are also shopping malls that can be found the Smokee Fashion House and the Berma Shopping Center. But the best deals are still to be found in the sidewalks along Edsa Rotonda up to the Airport Road during Wednesday.
After a day of shopping you can wind up and fill up you empty stomach in Seaside Market, a dampa-style eatery where variety of seafoods are served.
Good old Baclaran is here to stay no matter what, whether the economy is good or bad especially for those budget shoppers who are after its good deals and best buys.

With the weekly rising price of oil products, everything that depends on oil rises up too, from our household bills, transportation and our daily needs. It is simple because suppliers of electricity uses oil to run their generators, vehicles for transportation uses oil to run their vehicles. Unluckily, we cannot do anything to stop those circumstances (unless we dig our own oil for consumption) all we can do is to budget everything and tighten our belts.
Adjusting budgets starts with ourselves and at home, particularly with our usage of electricity. ...
