Well...my first week at work has passed and I learned a lot! For example: my favourite snack (yoghurt)...forget it! I love yoghurt! A day without yoghurt is a bad day and a fridge without yoghurt is a meaningless piece of furniture. But here...there is no good yoghurt! The plain stuff is ok, and you can actually eat strawberry and mixed berries (though they taste extremely artificial)...but if you love yogurth -like me- DONT buy coconut or prunes!

Just wanted to let you all know: I arrived safe and well! But I do not have Internet at mzy home, so will be a not-so-frequent-visitor to this side now. But as governor Schwarzenegger once said: I'LL BE BACK! ;-) |

They don't understand, that it is meant as a kind of description for modern slavery.
I have no problem, if a woman in a "modern" society decides to be a "wife" or a "mother" before everything else!
But not if they are TRAINED to be nothing else from birth and seen as a digrace to their family if they are not amrried with 2 children at the age of 20!
It's just ridiculous!

The main problem with everyone outside of the Philippines is that they're describing something they read in an old book. If you read a book about how life is in United States and how their manners and culture is, but the book was written in 1860, you might seem confused when you arrive in the US today and nothing is like the book you read. I, being a native Filipino, know that most comments posted by non-Filipinos are based on outdated informations obtain from outdated sources. Very few Filipinos have ever even seen a house made of nipa (a house constructed of bamboo and nipa leaves). Almost every Filipina today is well-versed in the use of cellphones, text-messaging, computers, and aware of women's rights. Most women in the world that come from industrialized nations are not ignorant of the world around them and their role in that world. Just like divorce in the US, Filipinas now get divorces, and more common and socially acceptable in today's society. Homosexuality is more openly accepted and expressed in the Philippines than almost any other place in the world except for Thailand. I don't expect a Filipino woman would assume the duty of nurse/housekeeper/sex-slave. In reality, if a man thinks that Asian women are mindlessly trained robots who are trained from birth to function as this, then they are in for a rude awakening once they're married. Also on the other hand, if an Asian woman expects life outside of Asia to be a fairytale filled with a fantasy life, free of problems, then they aren't very realistic in their expectations. I assume many marriages fail because unrealistic expectations of both partners to each other.
If a man found a Filipino woman to be pleasing to the eye and has the qualities that he admired in a woman to marry her, also if a Philippine woman finds a man that has all the qualities she admires to marry him, based on a person's personal preferences, I think I they should seek out the person God meant them to be with. Everyone has their own preferences on what they find physically attracted in a mate. But I don't believe that physical attraction is the only thing that should be important in a relationship. A relationship based on lies and deception is doomed to fail no matter the nationality or race of the individuals being married. It pains me that so many adults cannot understand that people are individuals and totally unique in every way and can't be classified due to their national origin. I hope someday everyone will come to understand that happiness comes from truth and common respect for their partner.

For me it's still warm enough!
I guess "some free days" are not enough, Paul.
I suggest, you have at least 2 weeks and it's better to take them off in Europes winter, because that is the nicest time here!
If you want to come, let me arrange the hotels for you, as I work for an incoming agent.
