hey all

there is a walk being held as we speak.groups of walkers from BC are working there way to Ottawa where they are to speak in front of parlament about OUR MISSING WOMEN

It all started with a great women named Gladys who wanted to bring awareness to all MISSING women cases.Gladys started this fight when her neice Tamara Chipman went MISSING from Prince Rupert BC in 2005.

I had the honor of takeing part in the walks between Prince Rupert and Terrace,and Terrace to kitwanga,I will carry these memories with me for the rest of my life.Coming together with others that deal with the loose of a family member of friend helped me relize Im not alone,and people do care.In a way I came away from the walk feeling like I had a hole new group of friends/we are all conected by this aweful crime towards women.WE all have the same goal END THIS PROBLEM,stop our women from become the next victum.

Just to let everyone know, even if you can't do the walk, your support in your communities to help the walkers, drummers, singers, dancers and family members by doing fundraisers to ensure the safety, lodging, food, proper foot gear, clothing, medical supplies, vehicles, drivers and supplies needed to make this journey a success.
We need to gather the names of each and every one of our loved ones who are sorely missed to present to the government. We need volunteers from every community to help in any way they can think of.
Don't forget we are asking for justice, closure equality and accountablitiy.
I thank all of you supporters out there, from the bottom of my heart, for standing with me to speak out for justice for our future generations. No better time to start than now hey. Our children are our future leaders, let's help them be productive and strong and let them know we care.

Silent March is a Voice for Murdered Women – Memory March 2008

Vancouver, March 23, 2008
—60-80 women and girls are murdered in Canada each year. Each death is an inexcusable crime, and the death toll destroys the fabric of our society. Activist Gwynne Hunt draws attention to the plight of women and girls by gathering their names and asking individuals to remember, grieve, and work for change. On Sunday, March 23, starting at 2:30pm in Crab Park, Hunt has organized The Memory March, a silent walk and ceremony in remembrance of murdered and missing women in Canada.

The march will start from the Missing Women’s Memorial in Crab Park at the foot of Main Street, and go to the women’s monument, Marker of Change, in Thornton Park at Main Street and Terminal Avenue. In the circle of Marker of Change, participants will read the names in memory of the women and girls we have lost to violence.

They will also wear the names of the almost 3000 murdered women and children . Mary Billy began The Femicide List after the December 1989 Montreal Massacre and over a ten year period collected 1,850 names. The list contains most of the names of women and children murdered across Canada since then. Gwynne Hunt assumed responsibility for the list in 2005.

An opening ceremony will be held at Crab Park with a meditation. A candle will be lit and placed in front of the Missing Women’s Memorial boulder before the walk.

Marchers are encouraged to bring flowers. The names of all the women and children will be read in Thornton Park before a two-minute silence.

The Memory March is sponsored by Art Matters Society, a charitable organization based in Abbotsford that produces live unjuried theatre including theatre for social change.

RCMP Sergeant Lierre Lemaitre updates media on  Highway of Tears investigation

    Prince George, B.C. -  RCMP have added nine more names to the file of  murdered  or missing women  along B.C.’s  highways.

Initially, the investigation focused on Highway 16, but some of the cases added are communities along Highway 97.

Sergeant Pierre Lemaitre of the RCMP says the investigation has expanded to include cases as far south as Kamloops and Merritt, and as far east as Hinton Alberta.

Over the past year, the review of the cases used geographic and criminal profiling as well as the Violent Criminal Link Analysis System to check for anything that would be common to all the cases.  After reviewing 200 cases, the investigation is now focusing on 18 cases.

When asked if police believe if the murders and disappearances are the result of a serial killer, Lemaitre would only say, “I would hope not”

Some of the cases that have been added to the list date back as far as 38 years.

Lemaitre says they haven’t made any arrests, and won’t say if they have any suspects, but they are asking the public to come forward with any information that might assist in this investigation.  “We know there are people out there who know something, it may be a waitress who overheard a conversation, or maybe you heard something at a drinking establishment, it may seem like nothing to you, but those little tips, little bits of information are invaluable to us.”

Lemaitre says investigators met with family members of the murdered and missing yesterday and coverage of the update on this case did spark “dozens of tips”.

He says despite what some may think, the RCMP has enough resources and sufficient funding for this case “We are working towards ensuring who ever is responsible for this, is brought to justice.”

The investigation into the disappearance of Tamara Chipman and the homicide investigation of Aielah SARIC AUGER are being conducted by the local agencies. Reviewers have been and continue to be in contact with investigators from the CHIPMAN and SARIC AUGER investigations.
