Caterpillars...

A few days ago, I noticed some disgusting black wriggling worm on my family's bougainvillea leaves. On another look, I recognised that they were caterpillars. Being a Buddhist, I closed one eye and ignored them. However, to my agony, several leaves were destroyed 2 days later. I couldn't bear to kill those insects, so I used a spade to remove them from the leaves and then swirl them into the air, following their movement down ten storeys with my eyes. They can consume the grass downstairs instead, assuming that they survive the hungry crows.

Later, I chanced upon a green caterpillar at its larva stage and I put it into a bottle. In my mind, I thought that this little pests would soon develop into a beautiful butterfly. What a contrast. But am I supposed to forgive it for the irreversible damage that it had caused? Well, I choose to. I am going to let the pest develop into a butterfly and then release it to the outer world. If I can do it to insects, I think I should be able to do the same thing for human beings.

The origin of the yellow ribbon is a touching story. Family members of a convict wanted to show encouragement and forgiveness to him, so they tied yellow ribbons to all the trees beside the road from the prison to their house to guide him back.

I guess we have to just learn to forgive one another and forget all the bad ugly things, just like when we look at the colourful butterflies, we do not think of them at the caterpillar stage. When we mastered the ability to forgive and forget, our lives willl be filled with happiness as we no longer have to remember the past and we embrace the bright future.

Let's lend our hand to our less fortunate friends

I have been disheartened by some unfortunate incident that is not worth mentioning. But when the President's Star Charity* Ad goes on the screen of my 32" TV set in my 5-room flat, some force deep within me led me to writing this.

A check in the Internet led me to conclude this: ...
